Amidst the expected shake-up with Discovery taking over DC and Warner Bros., some are asking if Walter Hamada is still president of the DC-based film production at Warner Bros. Pictures. While we don’t know the outcome of that aspect of Hamada’s influence over the slate of DC superhero movies, we did learn something else last week that surprised many.
During testimony he gave at Johnny Depp versus Amber Heard lawsuit, which is still ongoing, Hamada revealed that he had wanted to replace Amber heard for Aquaman 2, but ultimately she remained part of the movie which still won’t be released for another year. Many DCEU fans, and Johnny Depp supporters would love to see her replaced, and that isn’t as unlikely to happen as one might initially think.
According to Small Screen, during Hamada’s three hour testimony, he revealed that he tried to get Heard removed from Aquaman 2:
During his testimony at the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation trial (via Facebook), Hamada revealed that they tried to remove Heard from Aquaman 2 (Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom).
Hamada confirmed that the studio has tried to remove the actress from Aquaman 2 because of her “lack of chemistry” with its star, Jason Momoa.
However, he didn’t stop there.
He went on to reveal that the role of Mera was about to be offered to another actress.
He didn’t mention which actress they had in mind to replace Heard in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.

However, his efforts ended up failing after some pushback from high-ranking executives at the studio.
What ended up happening was that the studio refused to give Heard a pay raise.
While Hamada didn’t mention the likely replacement, Andre Einherjar the Editor-in-Chief and founder of Midnight’s Edge, says that the studio had been in active talks to replace Heard with Emilia Clarke, who also happened to be familiar with Jason Momoa from their time on the set of Game of Thrones. Andre also thinks it’s not entirely out the realm of possibility for Heard to be completely replaced, as Kevin Spacey was during the production of , if Heard’s defamation lawsuit goes against her.
Einherjar points out that both Kevin Spacey and Eric Stoltz were both replaced in film productions in the past. Spacey’s scenes in All the Money in the World, and Stoltz’s part in Back to the Future were reshot with replacements Christopher Plummer and Michael J. Fox respectively.
Since the initial news broke involving Amber Heard’s alleged domestic abuse and other unseemly activities, one Aquaman fan, Jeanne Larson, started an online petition to get Warner Bros to replace Heard in the role of Mera that she originated in the 2018 film. That petition was sent to both Courtney Simmons, the SVP of Publicity & Communications for DC Warner Bros, and Paul McGuire, head of DC Entertainment’s Corporate Communications and has reached nearly two-million signatures.
