We had the pleasure of interviewing The Fabled Flame all about their work!
1. How did you come up with the idea for your amazing dnd-inspired candles?
It actually all started with a gift from my brother. He gave me a D20 ice mold that he had picked up a few months before, and while it was fun, he thought since I love D&D and dice, that I might like it. I didn’t have much use for an ice mold, but looking at it, I thought it might be fun to drill a hole in it for a wick and use it for a candle. At the time, I was making pillar candles, so this was just for funsies. So I made the candle and shared it with a D&D group I was a part of, and they loved it and started asking if I sell them. I hadn’t thought that far ahead, but I said sure, looked for some more ice molds online and here we are!
2. What have been some of your favorite creations?
Ooo! That’s a toughie. I think I have two favorites. The first is my painted candles. I’m really proud of them. I especially love the poppy candle. As a second choice, I’ll go with a scent blend I recently mixed and am deciding where I want to offer it. I call it Shadow Keep and it is a blend of the dark and sweet yet herbaceous scent of dragon’s blood mixed with a light touch of lime, jasmine, and geranium and rounded out with a base of clove and patchouli. It’s definitely a strong scent, but I just love it.
3. What do you enjoy about Dnd?
What don’t I love? I think the top of the list is the experience of getting together with friends and family and going on adventures and building a story. My spouse DM’s and I play with our roommate, my sister, and a very good friend, and the laughter, the adventures, and spending an evening having an absolute blast together being heroes, villains, or just ridiculous screw-ups is just the best. Next after that is DICE. There are just so many and they are all so pretty! I have to have as many as I possibly can ( I MAY have a problem lol) I have a giant bag that I add to as much as I can when I can afford it and now, I’ve started a collection of dice from makers I’ve found since joining the online D&D community. And speaking of community, while I don’t interact much because I get anxious, I just love seeing and reading the amazing things, that come out of the D&D and larger tabletop RPG community as a whole.
4. What can people expect from your candles?
I think the first thing is craftsmanship. My spouse and I pour each and every candle by hand and make sure they are the best-looking candle we can produce. It’s an ongoing process to refine and make sure each edge is sharp, the numbers are well defined and the colors pop. Additionally, one can expect a strong scent. Our goal is for our candles to have a strong fragrance, but at the same time is not overpowering. We want the scents to be strong enough for you to enjoy them, but not so strong they punch you in the face. Overall, you can expect a quality, long-lasting (for its size) candle that adds to the atmosphere of your games, or just makes your home smell good! And they make awesome presents!
5. Where can others support you? I have several places!

6. Plans for 2022?
Well, I have a few things in the works! I’m in the process of creating a dice melts. But I don’t have a release date yet as they are still in development but it’s getting closer! In May, I will have a limited run of my hand-painted series featuring Poppy, Lilac, Cherry Blossom, and Celestial candles. In June, the bi-annual release of my Pride candles will be out. This year will feature the Pride, Lesbian, Bi, Ace, Pan, and Trans flags. And will include some new scents along with some old favorites. ALSO!! I’ll be at my first Con as a vendor! I’m going to have a booth at Lilac City Comic Con here in Spokane, so if you are attending on June 4th and 5th, come to say hi! I have a few other things in the works, but they aren’t far enough along to talk about yet, so I’m not sure if they will be a 2022, or 2023 thing yet.
