Nickelodeon Studios and Paramount+ announced the all-new live-action series based on The Fairly OddParents has started production in Los Angeles. The series is expected to debut later this year on Paramount+ and will feature an all-new cast as well as some familiar voices.
The series will feature some new faces including Audrey Grace Marshall from The Flight Attendant as Viv Turner; Tyler Wladis from Single Parents as Roy Ragland; Laura Bell Bundy from Perfect Harmony as Rachel Ragland; Ryan-James Hatanaka from Nancy Drew as Ty Turner; and Imogen Cohen as Viv and Roy’s friend, Zina Zacarias. These actors will also be joined by the original voices of Cosmo and Wanda, Daran Norris and Susanne Blakeslee.
The 13-episode first season of The Fairly OddParents will start years after the end of the original animated series. It will feature Timmy Turner’s cousin, Vivian “Viv” Turner and her new stepbrother, Roy Ragland, who became siblings after their parents and high school sweethearts, Ty Turner and Rachel Ragland reunited in the town of Dimmsdale. Their new family dynamic uproots Viv from her life and thrusts her into an entirely new home and town. Therefore, to help her survive, Timmy Turner entrusts her with his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo. However, Roy witnesses the fairy transfer process and also inherits the fairy godparents. Throughout the series, Viv and Roy will team up to navigate their new life with the help of their magical fairy godparents.
“During its run, The Fairly OddParents granted an endless amount of imagination to viewers, where no wish was too big or too small,” said Zack Olin, Co-Head of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. “We are so excited to build upon the ‘Fairly Odd’ universe with this totally unique experience that the new show’s incredibly talented creative team has cooked up for a new generation of kids on Paramount+.”
The original animated The Fairly OddParents series ran on Nickelodeon from 2001 to 2017. It was created by Butch Hartman and followed Timmy Turner, an average kid with fairy godparents who granted him wishes throughout 172 episodes. The series won many awards throughout its run, including the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation in 2005.
Paramount+ will be the home of the live-action The Fairly OddParents series later this year.
