Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel: Underbooked & Struggling

[ad_1]

The Galactic Starcruiser hotel at Disney World debuted in March to much fanfare, with social media influencers and YouTube stars allowed to enjoy the immersive experience of living a Star Wars fantasy for two nights. However, according to a new report, the Galaxy’s Edge park-themed accommodation’s $5000 price tag may be too expensive for many, as the attraction is struggling to fill its rooms.

Guests are invited to embark on a two-night journey across the galaxy onboard the Halcyon, which includes lightsaber training, meals, and entertainment inspired by the Star Wars franchise, as well as a fully interactive story that allows them to take part in their own Star Wars story for those who really want to get involved.

Early reviews were divided, with some complimenting the hotel’s immersive ambiance and scope, while others criticized its inconsistency, silly offerings, and smaller than expected accommodations. The paying public is now apparently not showing up, expressing their dissatisfaction with the situation. According to SFGATE, the hotel has a maximum capacity of 100 rooms, and there are still plenty available from August until the end of the year, including many available rooms on numerous weekends in June and July, a popular season for a two-night stay, which were expected to sell out quickly.

While some individuals are still hesitant to schedule summer vacations due to concerns about the global pandemic, the big, once-in-a-lifetime trip is one that many would have expected to fill up rapidly during the holiday season.

Despite the fact that Disney has a lot of expertise marketing theme parks, the Halcyon experience’s debut advertising drew more criticism than praise. Sean Giambrone of The Goldbergs and a Disney Parks Imagineer appeared in a walkthrough of the hotel in December, prompting criticism from fans who downvoted the video to oblivion. Their criticisms ranged from the casting of a non-Star Wars actor to the hotel’s quality and scale in comparison to concept imagery previously released. Most of all, it was cringy AF.

To course-correct, Disney removed the promo and replaced it with a new one starring Oscar Isaac. Still, when contrasted to what fans had envisioned, the videos of the actual hotel were not enough to avoid cancellations. Whether it’s cringy or not, the true issue is Disney’s blunders. The majority of families are not willing to spend this amount to be a part of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Those films were critically panned. And at $5000-$6000 for two nights, in addition to the expense of travel to the park, this rate is definitely too expensive for many individuals in Joe Biden’s economy.

The launch of a luxury hotel experience could not have come at a worse time, given the rising cost of living. However, given Disney’s track record, it’s unlikely that the costs will be reduced at this early stage, so anyone looking to benefit from a prospective reduction may be disappointed. But not as disappointed as those that actually went.
