The Infinity Stones Ranked By How Long They Were On Earth

[ad_1]

Fans of the MCU know that the legendary and mysterious Infinity Stones were all-powerful gems that existed before the creation of the known universe. Each Stone embodied a critical aspect of the universe: Space, Mind, Reality, Power, Time, and Soul. Most of these ancient relics have changed hands many times over the years.

Many of the Stones were introduced on faraway worlds in galaxies that are millions of lightyears away from Earth. However, for whatever reason, some of the stones also spent a great deal of time on Earth, unbeknownst to the human population. In fact, every single Stone spent at least some time on Earth at some point before they were destroyed.

6 Soul Stone: Only On Earth For The Snaps

Thanos & Hawkeye split with the Soul Stone

The mystery surrounding the Soul Stone remained prevalent until the big reveal in Infinity War when fans learn where the Stone had been all along, as well as where Red Skull ended up after World War II. Both were stashed away on Vormir – Red Skull for decades, the Stone presumably forever.

The Soul Stone is only ever on Earth when a Snap is being performed or when it is waiting to be used in a Snap – such as during the Battle of Wakanda before Thanos got the Mind Stone, post-time heist before Tony could develop a suitable gauntlet, or during the final battle against 2014 Thanos. Aside from these brief moments, the Stone was only ever seen on Vormir when it was summoned or on Titan during Thanos’ fight with Tony and company.

5 Power Stone: Also Only On Earth For The Snaps, But Handled By An Earthling On Xandar

The Power Stone is another Stone that doesn’t get a lot of time on Earth. While it was front and center during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, after the opening sequence, that film never returned to Earth. The Power Stone was found on Morag, where it had presumably been for thousands, maybe millions of years (300 years minimum given the planet’s tidal movement).

After Peter liberated the orb from the temple on Morag, he attempted to sell it on Xandar to the Broker but was turned away once the Broker heard that Ronan was after it. The Guardians then attempted to sell it to The Collector on Knowhere, but the Stone literally blows up in their face when Carina (The Collector’s slave girl) tries to use it. The Power Stone doesn’t arrive on Earth until after Thanos decimates Xandar looking for it.

However, it is used by Peter Quill (from Earth) and the other Guardians to defeat the evil zealot, Ronan the Accuser. That may not count with respect to Stone location, but there are more Earthlings using the Power Stone than there are using the Soul Stone.

4 Reality Stone: On Earth For The Snaps, But Spent Some Time In London During 2013

Aether In MCU

The Reality Stone is another Stone that spends most of its time in other parts of the cosmos. However, during the events of Thor: The Dark World, the Stone ends up on Earth a couple of times in the form of the Aether. When Jane is in London, studying what she later learns is called the Convergence, she stumbles across a site riddled with anomalies in the form of invisible interplanetary portals.

She gets mysteriously pulled into one of these portals and ends up in an unknown realm, deep underground, only a few feet away from where Bor had buried the Aether thousands of years ago. After the Aether enters Jane’s body, she finds her way back to Earth just before the God of Thunder arrives.

Thor realizes there is something wrong with her beyond the help of Midgard doctors, so he takes her home only to find out that she had been imbued with the Aether. After Thor’s plan to destroy the Aether fails miserably, Malekith absorbs the energy and heads to Earth to take advantage of the Convergence. Once Malekith is dealt with, the Asgardians regain the Aether and entrust it with The Collector on Knowhere.

3 Mind Stone: On Earth Since 2012

When Loki arrives on Earth to take the Tesseract and declare war on humanity, he does so with the help of the scepter Thanos had so generously loaned to him during his mission of conquest. However, Earth’s mightiest heroes proved to be too much for Loki and the Chitauri army, resulting in Loki standing trial on Asgard and the scepter being taken by Hydra agents pretending to be S.H.I.E.L.D.

After the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the Avengers go around the world snuffing out any remaining Hydra bases with the primary goal of finding the scepter. Eventually, they confiscate the scepter from Baron Von Strucker, but only manage to hang onto it for a few days before Ultron steals it and extracts the Mind Stone for his new Vibranium body.

Thankfully, the Avengers are able to swipe the new body from Ultron and implant J.A.R.V.I.S. into it, which results in the creation of the Vision. The Mind Stone remained in Vision’s forehead until Thanos arrived during the Battle of Wakanda.

2 Space Stone: Hidden Away In Tonsberg, Norway By The Ancient Asgardians Around 965 A.D.

The Asgardians are presumably the first known people in the MCU to hold onto the Space Stone, though they apparently grew wary of storing it on their homeworld as they eventually entrusted it with Asgardian worshippers on Midgard. In 965 A.D. Asgard drove Jotun forces out of Tonsberg, Norway, resulting in the locals thanking and praising the Asgardians for their help.

A few years later, after developing a bond with the Norwegians, the Asgardians decided it was a good idea to move the Stone to Earth and keep it under the protection of their faithful followers. The Stone remained hidden in secrecy, becoming part of Norse mythology and legends, until World War II when a chaotic man named Johann Schmidt came looking for it.

Schmidt discovered the hiding place of the Stone and stole it in order to develop incredible yet terrifying weaponry. The Stone bounced around the Earth for several decades before Loki decided to steal it in the first Avengers film, resulting in its return to Asgard until Ragnarok.

1 Time Stone: Presumably On Earth For Thousands Of Years Under The Care Of Agamotto

The Eye of Agamotto had been the relic used to conceal the Time Stone for thousands of years on Earth. Agamotto himself is the one who crafted the Eye around the time he founded the mystic arts, becoming the world’s first Sorcerer Supreme. It’s unknown how long ago Agamotto lived or how long he lived for, but Kevin Feige indicating that the Ancient One was around 500 years old when she passed could suggest Agamotto lived for hundreds of years as well, maybe even thousands.

The mystic arts go back thousands of years – many more years ago than 965 A.D. When Agamotto founded the mystic arts, he also created the three sanctums and declared that people may study his Eye, but it shall not be used any longer. However, each Sorcerer Supreme from Agamotto to Strange has used the Stone at their discretion over the years in order to quell global and universal threats.
