Marvel’s Deadly New Villain Violently Murders a Watcher

Marvel Comics provides CBR with an exclusive look at Fantastic Four #40, a tie-in to “Reckoning War” from Dan Slott and Rachael Stott.

Marvel Comics has provided CBR with an exclusive preview of Fantastic Four #40, by Dan Slott, Rachael Stott, Jesus Aburtov and VC’s Joe Caramagna. The book, which is a tie-in to the ongoing “Reckoning War” event, introduces a new villain that immediately kills an obscure Watcher.

The first installment in “Reckoning War,” Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1 saw Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic gaining access to the Cyclopedia Universum, which stores the knowledge of all the Watchers. This power-up gave him the knowledge that Earth was under attack from a group of aliens called the Reckoning, who were the result of the Watchers’ early attempts to improve the universe. The end of Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1 teased a major threat calling himself the Wrath of the Reckoning.

In Fantastic Four #40, the Wrath of the Reckoning goes to Obscura Minor, which was once home to the Raj-Lek. However, the Reckoning have taken control of the planet and are using it as a staging ground for their war. In the preview, the Wrath of the Reckoning confronts Qyre, a Watcher who was permanently silenced by Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk in 2004’s She-Hulk #7, by Slott and Juan Bobillo, after he saw the reclusive Raj-Lek.

As the preview progresses, Wrath of the Reckoning taunts Qyre, angry about how the Watchers treated his people after raising them up. Wrath of the Reckoning then brutally murders Qyre, showcasing just how powerful he really is. “This is why my victory is assured,” Wrath of the Reckoning says to Qyre’s destroyed body, “We have all of your power… none of your limits.. and no one to rival us. No one!” On the final page, the preview jumps to the Fantastic Four in New York City, with Reed still feeling the effects of having absorbed so much information.
