DC’s Free Comic Book Day Issue Is a Dark Crisis Prologue

[ad_1]

DC’s Free Comic Book Day offering for 2022 is an intro for Dark Crisis, the company’s latest event which features a team of legacy heroes.

Dark Crisis, the latest event that will embroil the DC Universe, kicks off in May with a Free Comic Book Day one-shot.

Spearheaded by writer Joshua Williamson (Infinite Frontier, Robin) and illustrated by a host of artists including Jim Cheung (Justice League, Young Avengers) and Daniel Sampere (Action Comics, Justice League Dark), Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition delves into the aftermath of the Justice League’s core members seemingly dying at the hands of the Great Darkness. A team of legacy heroes rises up to defend the Earth in their absence, composed of several faces who headlined the Future State initiative at the onset of 2021, which outlined a possible future for the DC Universe. These faces include Jon Kent as Superman, Yara Flor as Wonder Girl and Jace Fox, the new Batman who recently relocated to New York City from Gotham.

The Dark Crisis Free Comic Book Day special leads directly into the one-shot Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1, which goes on sale May 31 and showcases a stunning array of creators, including writers Dan Jurgens (Superman, Booster Gold) and Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Action Comics, The Last God), alongside artists like Clayton Henry (Shazam, Superman: Red & Blue) and Fico Ossio (Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom, No One Left to Fight).

The story then continues in June with the seven-issue Dark Crisis limited series, which promises to showcase Jon Kent’s efforts as the son of Superman forms a team to combat the Great Darkness and save the old Justice League — if they still live.

Dark Crisis is an epic DCU event about legacy,” Williamson said. “It will have all the giant, fun cosmic battles and Multiversal set pieces, but it’s not about reboots, retcons, or rewriting time and space. At its core it’s about the characters and the relationships that we’ve seen built over DC’s great history.”

Sampere added that the event was designed to embrace DC’s rich, textured history while also looking to the future. “To me, Dark Crisis is a big celebration for all DC fans,” he said. “It’s a huge event full of epic and heart, an event that embraces the past while looking to the future. Joshua and I are the biggest DC fans, and this is our love letter to these characters and this universe.”
