Punisher Killed with Zoo Animals Before It Was Cool

[ad_1]

While wounded and on the run, Punisher uses various deadly zoo animals to deal with his pursuers.

Since his comics debut in 1974, Punisher has killed criminals in many creative and resourceful ways. In 2000’s Punisher #4 by Garth Ennis,  Steve Dillon, and Jimmy Palmiotti,  Frank Castle gets extra resourceful when he uses various zoo animals to kill the mobsters that are after him.

Let’s find out how and why this is arguably one of Frank Castle’s most entertaining and creative ways of dealing with bad guys.

After being shot while being pursued by the Gnucci crime family, Punisher is wounded and needs to think of something very clever in order to survive this ordeal. He leads the thugs into the Central Park Zoo. The thugs fall right into his trap. From there, Frank used all of his skills to lead the thugs and Ma Gnucci herself into the jaws of various deadly animals. These animals included a pool of piranhas, a giant anaconda, and several polar bears.

Let’s start with the piranhas. This was arguably the most creative and out-of-the-box kill from Frank in this issue. When he first got into the zoo, he hid in some bushes in the piranha exhibit room, waiting patiently and watching the propped-open door for an oblivious thug to walk in.

To Punisher’s delight, the thug who walked in was the same one who made him back in Central Park. Castle caught him by surprise, lifted him up, and flipped him over, headfirst into the huge pool of the deadly carnivorous fish. By the time the other thugs found their comrade, he was nothing but a skeleton.

Frank’s next zoo animal kill wasn’t nearly as bloody, but no less brutal. After peeping through the exhibit window and seeing a giant anaconda, he chose the huge snake as his new friend. He then broke the glass and waited for his new friend to work his magic. One of the thugs foolishly fell right into Frank’s trap, waltzing straight into the giant snake’s exhibit. The snake promptly crushed him like a piece of paper.

With just Ma Gnucci and one thug left, Frank found himself in the exhibit of his next new friends. Three very large polar bears. To save his life, Frank punched one of the bears in the face to get it and its friends angry. While there were definitely other ways for Frank to get the bears angry, it was fast and certainly made his furry friends very angry enough to get him out of trouble.

After escaping, Frank watched and savored the moment as the large mammals ripped the mobsters apart. A picture only fitting of a Garth Ennis Punisher comic.

Over the years, we’ve seen Punisher kill bad guys with everything from guns, knives, various household items, and more. However, his insanely clever use of zoo animals has to be one of the most out of the box in the character’s history. Each of the animals he used exactly to their nature. Each of the thug’s deaths and Gnucci’s mauling were uniquely brutal and entertaining. Not only that, but it demonstrated just how resourceful of a man Frank Castle is.
