Xochitl Gomez, who will play America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has some fun with the action figure for her MCU role.
Actor Xochitl Gomez is ready to portray America Chavez for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and she’s got the action figure to prove it.
Gomez posted a TikTok video showing herself with a Marvel Legends America Chavez action figure that uses her own likeness for the character. Using a variety of the toy’s poses in rapid succession, she created a miniature stop-motion film of America in action, set to the tune of “Baby Work It” by Your Favourite Garçon. Along with her own smiling face, her caption “i’m an action figure! #americachavez” showed her excitement for the role, which also marks the live-action debut of America.
America Chavez/Miss America is a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in 2011’s Vengeance #1. Created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta, she originally hailed from the Utopian Parallel dimension, although recent developments have altered her origin story. She boasts a number of superpowers including strength, speed and durability, and can also travel through dimensions using her signature ability to create star-shaped portals. America has been featured in various comic series, a member of teams like the Young Avengers and the West Coast Avengers.
America’s abilities may be just what the doctor ordered in Multiverse of Madness, which is set in the MCU timeline after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Loki Season 1 and WandaVision Season 1, each of which took its own approach to questions of alternate dimensions. Doctor Strange, who appeared in No Way Home to lend his magic abilities to Peter Parker’s personal crises, will be contending with multiversal threats of his own with some help (or hindrance) from Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch as well as America Chavez.
The first teaser trailer for Multiverse of Madness dropped as a post-credits scene for No Way Home, to avoid spoilers for plot points that connected the two films. Although America wasn’t seen in that one, fans are hoping for a second trailer to be revealed during the Super Bowl on Sunday, so there’s a chance she’ll be taking a portal into the spotlight very soon.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere on May 6, 2022. In addition to Gomez, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo.
