‘Scooby-Doo’ Asks James Gunn for a Role in The Suicide Squad

[ad_1]

James Gunn reveals a letter his former co-worker “Scooby-Doo” wrote to him regarding a role in The Suicide Squad. (It was actually Ben Schwartz.)

In a lighthearted social media post, James Gunn revealed that he has been “contacted” by one of his former co-workers: Scooby-Doo.

Gunn, who wrote the screenplay for the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo feature and its 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, shared a letter he received — ostensibly written by the mystery-solving dog but actually sent by Sonic the Hedgehog star Ben Schwartz. In the letter, “Scooby” first asks Gunn if he’s changed his phone number, since he’s has tried to get in contact with him over the years and never received a reply. “I rigured you must changed it,” the letter reads, written in Scooby’s trademark speech pattern. “Because I remember you being a nice guy, and nice guys ront ghost friends.”

The letter goes on to ask why Scooby hasn’t been cast in any of Gunn’s recent projects, such as Guardians of the Galaxy or “The Ruicide Squad.” “I mean, you have a freakin talking tree, a reagle, a shark AND NO SCOOB????” he asks. The letter then reveals that Scooby’s acting career has fallen on hard times and continues to guilt Gunn for not contacting him after their last project together. It’s signed “Scooby Doobie Dooooo! (your friend for TWENTY YEARS),” completely with a nearly-illegible handwritten signature.

Gunn shared a photo of the letter on Twitter with the caption, “Just got this letter in the mail. It’s a bummer how many friends I don’t hear from for years, and then, when I do, it’s to ask me for something. Real classy, Scooby-Doo (who must be crashing at [Ben Schwartz]’s house, because they share a return address).”

It’s not hard to see why “Scooby-Doo” would go to Gunn asking for a job. Gunn’s latest project, Peacemaker, has been met with positive reviews upon its release, with Gunn saying that there’s “a really good chance” for a Season 2 pickup since “[w]e’re the biggest show in the world right now.” Gunn will also be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to helm the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, which he insists will be “the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.” Additionally, Gunn is a developing a second Suicide Squad spin-off after Peacemaker, though its unknown which character it’s set to focus on.

As for Scooby-Doo, he seems to have exaggerated his trouble finding work in the entertainment industry. In addition to a succession of direct-to-DVD features, the character is also set to headline a sequel to the 2020 animated release Scoob!. He and the Mystery Inc. gang also recently co-starred in Batman and Scooby-Doo Mysteries, a digital-first comic series that saw the meddling kids outwit criminals alongside the Dark Knight.
