Tom Holland reveals that getting hit by a car 17 times was the absolute highlight of playing Nathan “Nate” Drake in his upcoming film Uncharted.
Actor Tom Holland revealed that getting hit by a car 17 times was the highlight of filming his latest movie, Uncharted.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holland disclosed that getting hit by a car was “pretty impressive” when asked what he will tell his family about playing the part of Nathan “Nate” Drake decades from now. Calling the experience “fun,” Holland reminisced that performing the stunt was very rewarding, despite the pain he had to endure doing it.
“It’s a pretty cool thing when someone says, ‘How was your day today?’ And I’m like, ‘Hey, I got hit by a car 17 times,'” Holland said. “And people are like, ‘Wait, what?’ So for me, that was a very proud moment.” Holland also called the stunt one of the best in the movie. “It’s really, really cool and that would have to be one of the highlights [of filming Uncharted],” Holland said.
Uncharted, based on Naughty Dog’s video game series of the same name, follows young fortune hunter Nathan “Nate” Drake as he and his partner/mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg), face off against a band of mercenaries led by Moncada (Antonio Banderas), a wealthy and dangerous treasure hunter, as they race to find a lost fortune from the voyages of Magellan. While embarking on this quest, Drake and Sully also attempt to uncover the location of Drake’s long-lost brother, Sam, by following a series of clues that may reveal his whereabouts.
While the movie entered development in 2008, due to a constant shuffling of cast and crew members behind the scenes, filming for Uncharted did not officially begin until March 16, 2020, after Ruben Fleischer was attached to the project as director and Holland was cast as Drake, a role that Wahlberg was actually set to play during the film’s earlier development. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, however, filming for Uncharted was shut down and entered a four-month hiatus, during which Holland continued to eat and train for his role.
Serving as a prequel to the Uncharted video game series, the movie also features Sophia Ali (Grey’s Anatomy) as Chloe Frazer, Drake’s love interest and fellow fortune hunter and Tati Gabrielle (The 100) as Braddock, one of Moncada’s mercenaries. Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) and Youtuber ElrubiusOMG will also appear in Uncharted, although their roles have yet to be revealed.
Uncharted will be released in theatres on Feb. 11 in the United Kingdom and Feb. 18 in the United States.
