A dedicated cosplayer recreates Catwoman’s “Knightmare” look from Tom King and Joëlle Jones’ “Rules of Engagement” arc in Batman.
A cosplayer put a purrfect spin on a popular Catwoman look.
Adi Rodrigues shared a photo of herself decked out in a costume inspired by Selina Kyle from writer Tom King, artist Joëlle Jones, colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Clayton Cowles’ Batman #33-35, “Rules of Engagement.” Published by DC in 2017, those issues picked up after Batman’s proposal to Catwoman and saw the two heroes don outfits reminiscent of what the former wore in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s infamous Knightmare scene as they sought out Talia al Ghul.
Though there hasn’t been a live-action version of Catwoman to don a Knightmare costume, the look itself was given new life thanks to the epilogue of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. As for Selina Kyle, the character will return to screens for the first time since 2011’s The Dark Knight Rises in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ The Batman, this time played by Zoë Kravitz.
“To see a person like Selina really get in touch with her power and become Catwoman? That’s a journey that I’m really interested in exploring,” Kravitz recently explained. “We haven’t quite seen that yet. We usually meet Catwoman, and it’s either a very quick transformation — an overnight thing — or she’s already there. And so to find the emotional journey that brings her to the place where she is making the choice to be this person, is what I’m really excited about.”
Kravitz also recenly explained the pracitcal reason behind her Catwoman’s claw-like nails, saying, “It was an extremely collaborative process — in all the ways, in terms of the character and how she looked and what she was wearing…our costume designer came to New York a week after I got the part to meet me and measure me and start the conversation about Catwoman. Matt [Reeves] is an extremely collaborative filmmaker who likes to get to know the person playing the character, so I didn’t have to fight for anything — it was designed that way.”
The Batman arrives in theaters March 4.
