The Power Rangers Just Introduced the Greatest Megazords of All Time

[ad_1]

The Power Rangers have finally unveiled a mashup that fans have been waiting almost three decades to see, and it is everything they could have asked for.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #15 by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Marco Renna, Raul Angulo, Sara Antonellini, and Ed Dukeshire, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers have spent nearly three decades as superpowered icons thanks to their color-coded lineups, monstrous villains, and the massive battles between them. In fact, those epic confrontations are what many fans most fondly recall from the original series, especially when the heroes had to call their towering Megazords into action. Despite the overwhelming odds that the Rangers have faced both in the past and the present, there has rarely been a fight they couldn’t win with the help of their massive mechs, and the mashup that fans have been waiting almost thirty years for has just turned the tide of the Eltarian War.

The heroes have found themselves fighting for the fate of the entire world in the pages of Power Rangers #15. Not only has the Eltarian invasion cost them their homes and Command Center, but the Empyreal threat is also poised to wipe Earth off the map entirely. Thankfully, the Power Rangers have managed to find a way of striking back against their foes in the most iconic way possible. They called upon their Zords to help even the odds, but two of them have finally come together in a way that fans of the franchise have been anxiously awaiting for almost thirty years, and the White Tiger Dragonzord is just as incredible as everyone knew it would be.

The Dragonzord and White Tigerzord, first introduced in the first and second seasons of the original television series respectively, hold a special place in the hearts of many who grew up with the show. As two of the most iconic and beloved Zords of the entire franchise, they have been the subject of no small amount of speculation and experimentation on the part of the fanbase. Early enjoyers of the series may have never got to see these two come together to form their own Megazord, but collectors and toy fanatics have spent years kit-bashing figures of these two Zords into the best approximations of the combo that they could. Despite only coming together for the first time now, the White Tiger Dragonzord was successfully piloted through battle by Matthew Cook and Tommy Oliver. As impossible as it sounds, the two Rangers even managed to unleash their new Zord’s impossible might to actually destroy one of the Empyreal assailants, and they aren’t the only ones putting their mechs to good use.

With the fall of the Orange Empyreal, the spirit of the Blue Emissary was freed, and the Morphin deity was quick to help the Omega Rangers combine their own mechs for the very first time into the Ultra Omegazord. The Ultra Omegazord was also perfectly capable of taking down an Empyreal on its own. These developments were surely not anything that Supreme Guardian Zartus had expected when he first brought the invasion to Earth, though the transformation of the final Empyreal once it has gathered the energy of its brethren looks to turn the tide of battle back in Eltar’s favor. Of course, no matter how powerful this Super Empyreal might be, the combined teams of Rangers have proven that the invading forces aren’t as invulnerable as they would like to believe, and it is only a matter of time before they realize that for themselves.

New Megazords are always exciting, even if they come and go with every new entry into the franchise. Even if newer models don’t stand out quite as much as the classics, there is still a myriad of mechanized monstrosities that are just waiting to be brought into the world of the comics. Then again, the White Tiger Dragonzord may have just made it clear that the original Zords still have plenty of surprises of their own. With any luck, those will be enough to save the day and set things right before the next grave threat to the universe arrives.
