Doug Jones shares a behind-the-scenes photo from the Hocus Pocus sequel as filming wraps, offering a first look at his return as Billy Butcherson.

Doug Jones shared the first look at his return to Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus 2, a role he reprised from the original 1993 film.

Jones shared a photograph of himself in full Billy Butherson makeup on Twitter to celebrate as Hocus Pocus 2 officially wraps filming. While Jones’ tweet has since been deleted, he shared some comments on the makeup itself. According to Jones, while applying the makeup itself only took “just a couple hours” in the chair, the prosthetic itself “took weeks to make.”

Jones first appeared as Billy Butcherson in 1993’s Hocus Pocus as the ex-boyfriend of Winifred Sanderson (Bette Midler), who was brought back from the dead as a zombie to retrieve the Sanderson sisters’ spellbook. Hocus Pocus 2 was announced in early 2020, with Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy set to reprise their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, respectively. The Hocus Pocus sequel will be directed by Anne Fletcher with a script from Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics) and is slated to arrive on Disney+ in 2022. According to Midler, all three Sanderson sister actors approved of the script outline that was given to them for the sequel.

“They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor, because it’s been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great,” Midler said. Original Hocus Pocus director, Adam Shankman, will not be returning in a directorial capacity for the sequel. However, he will be assisting the film as an executive producer.

Along with returning cast members Jones, Midler, Parker and Najimy, Hocus Pocus 2 features newcomers Whitney Peak (Becca), Lilia Buckingham (Cassie), Belissa Escobedo (Izzy), with Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez Taylor Paige Henderson and Nina Kitchen.

“As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work,” Shankman said when the sequel was announced. “I am still grateful and proud to help shepherd this ingenious project as executive producer alongside producer Lynn Harris, whom I have loved and admired as a colleague and friend since she helped get me the job choreographing Boogie Nights.”

Originally released in 1993, Hocus Pocus follows disgruntled, skeptical teenager Max (Omri Kratz) and his little sister Dani (Thora Birch), who move from Los Angeles, CA to Salem, MA right in time for Halloween. However, after Max lights the black flame candle and accidentally awakens the evil Sanderson sisters 300 years after they were hanged, they must fight to survive the night and stop the witches from stealing the youth from all the children in Salem. The film quickly became a cult classic and even had a successful theatrical re-release in 2020.

Hocus Pocus 2 premieres in fall 2022 on Disney+.
