Komi Can’t Communicate is a popular new shonen series with some charming shojo elements to it. The silent heroine, Shoko Komi, is determined to make 100 friends this year no matter what. Her quest for friendship began with her plain but empathetic classmate Hitohito Tadano and he means a lot to her.
In fact, Komi Can’t Communicate has some romantic undertones, even if it’s not primarily a romance story. There’s no denying Shoko Komi’s amorous feelings toward the friendly and helpful Hitohito Tadano. Hypothetically, though, Shoko could also befriend and fall for a number of anime characters who have strong compatibility with her, and Shoko’s dating prospects are strong.
10 Izumi Miyamura Is Gentle & Kind (Horimiya)
Some anime girls want to date exciting bad boys while other anime girls would much rather have a gentle and charming boyfriend, such as Izumi Miyamura. He makes up half of the main romance in the hit high school rom-com Horimiya, and Shoko Komi would definitely like him.
Izumi is a lot like Shoko in unexpected ways and they would quickly form a strong friendship if they went to the same school. Then, if Izumi is feeling brave, he’ll ask Shoko out, and Shoko would timidly but happily say yes.
9 Yuki Sohma Is Tender & Caring (Fruits Basket)
The world of shojo has many ideal boyfriends in it, and a handful of them would be wonderfully compatible with Shoko Komi. That includes Fruits Baskets’ esteemed Yuki Sohma, who is considered the most talented and important part of the Sohma family aside from Akito Sohma herself.
Despite all this, Yuki is actually a selfless and humble boy who cares far more about the happiness of others can’t stand injustice. Shoko Komi would be deeply impressed by Yuki’s kindness and courage when fighting back against Akito and she would stay by his side no matter what.
8 Futaro Uesugi Is Intense But Highly Supportive Of Others (The Quintessential Quintuplets)
When the Nakano sisters test Futaro Uesugi’s patience in The Quintessential Quintuplets, he tends to yell and throw a minor tantrum, but he’s not always like that. Ordinarily, Futaro is a quiet and helpful boy who gets validation not from his own grades but from helping other people realize their potential. He’s highly altruistic.
Shoko Komi likes Hitohito because the latter is empathetic, caring, and supportive of others, and she would see those same qualities in Futaro. It also helps that Futaro is a good tutor and student, so he and Shoko could happily study together before deciding to date.
7 Keith Claes Looks Out For His Goofy Sister (My Next Life As A Villainess)
Keith Claes was adopted into the wealthy Claes family as a young boy in My Next Life as a Villainess. His isekai heroine sister Katarina is very supportive of him, and vice versa. These foster siblings get along well and they have their best interests at heart at all times. Keith is quick to shield Katarina from jerks, weirdos, or aggressive suitors.
Keith is a naturally friendly and empathic boy who is grateful for all the good things in his life, and he is quick to repay any act of kindness. A charming and upstanding fellow like him would make a great boyfriend for Shoko Komi. He’s a sharp dresser, too.
6 Naoto Hachoji Is Shy But Passionate (Don’t Toy With Me, Ms. Nagatoro!)
In many ways, Don’t Toy With Me, Ms. Nagatoro!‘s Naoto Hachioji is a male Shoko Komi: a shy and soft-spoken boy who is slow to make friends or assert himself. He has a passion for sketching and art and this may be what drew the troublemaker Hayase Nagatoro to him. He has an inner fire.
Naoto befriended Hayase over time, but he would befriend Shoko Komi much more quickly since they would understand one another well and respect each other greatly. After some deliberation, Shoko would volunteer for a few sketches, and Naoto would gladly capture her beauty on paper.
5 Ryuji Takasu Is Nicer Than He Looks (Toradora!)
Ryuji Takasu makes a bad first impression on people in Toradora! since he has the intense eyes and mean face of a punk or wannabe yakuza gangster, so people treat him accordingly. But as series like Horimiya and Komi Can’t Communicate show, first impressions can be misleading, and people are often very different on the inside.
Shoko would likely be afraid of Ryuji until he shows his gentle side and demonstrates what a friendly person he really is. Then, Shoko may become Ryuji’s friend, and given the chance, she might fall for him, too. Ryuji is actually a gentle and kind boy on the inside, and that’s what Shoko wants.
4 Gray Fullbuster Is Loyal & Caring (Fairy Tail)
The ice wizard Gray Fullbuster can be rather intense at times in Fairy Tail, usually when he’s being pestered by Juvia or competing with Natsu Dragneel. Aside from that, Gray has a well-balanced and charming personality that many girls would like. Lucy once considered him an ideal boyfriend, although she never followed up on that idea.
Gray is a loyal, hardworking, and passionate guy who will risk his very life for the people he cares about, and that would make an excellent impression on Shoko Komi. And even if Shoko has no magic of her own, Gray would like her right back, and perhaps ask her out. But he’d better not let Juvia see that.
3 Alphonse Elric Is A Generous Boy (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Unlike his hotheaded tsundere brother Edward, Alphonse Elric is an easygoing and charismatic fellow who can easily make friends and make a good impression on anyone whom he meets in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Al can be tough if he needs to be, but he vastly prefers peace over war, as does Edward.
If she lived in Amestris, Shoko Komi would find Alphonse irresistible. Al would dazzle her with stories of his adventures and ideas on how he can help others in the future. Winry ended up with Edward, so Alphonse can pair up with Shoko Komi instead.
2 Isshiki Satoshi Is Charming & Talented (Food Wars!)
Isshiki Satoshi from Food Wars! is like a big brother to everyone in the Polar Star dorm on Totsuki’s campus, and he’s known for his many natural talents and his outgoing personality. He’s also a childhood friend of Nene Kinokuni, who envies his many talents and popularity.
Isshiki would definitely like Shoko Komi if they met and he’d restrain his wilder side to make her more comfortable. Shoko, in turn, would easily befriend the caring and optimistic Isshiki. If things go well, she might start dating him, too.
1 Raku Ichijo Always Means Well (Nisekoi)
Many rom-com male leads are well-adjusted and likable fellows, even if they aren’t particularly memorable. That includes Raku Ichijo, the star of Nisekoi. In some ways, he’s like Toradora!‘s Ryuji Takasu, a boy who may seem scary and tough at first but is actually kind and gentle. Raku belongs to a notorious crime family, but he’s no thug.
Raku is an earnest and well-meaning kid who can make friends fairly well if he doesn’t slip up and make a bad first impression. He and Shoko would get along just fine if they were classmates. They just might start going out and Shoko would have a wonderful time with Raku, provided she doesn’t have to meet his scary yakuza family.
