However, leaks can also spoil gamers because they wanted to be surprised about the upcoming content. The most recent video game leak might be Pokémon: Legends of Arceus. Much of the game’s content leaked one week before its release. There have been many other major and minor video game leaks over the years.

Pokémon: Legends of Arceus is the latest video game title in the Pokémon franchise. The game seems exciting to some fans due to the fresh aspects that Pokémon games haven’t launched before. Although, it doesn’t seem appealing to other fans of the franchise. The game launched on January 28, but faced major leaks on the internet one week before its release.
The leak includes Hisuian forms of certain Pokémon, the full Pokédex of the game, and the opening sequence. Since the game is a newer title, gamers will be spared from any in-detail spoilers.
9 Pokémon Let’s Go Is Another Pokémon Entry Leaked Before Launch
Pokémon: Legends of Arceus isn’t the only Pokémon entry to be leaked prior to its release. The Let’s Go game takes players back to the nostalgic Kanto region, which they first visited in the first generation Pokémon games, and later in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The prototype for the Nintendo Switch remakes was leaked on 4chan before it released in 2018. Although, developers revealed the content featured in the prototype was cut from the final product. Like Legends of Arceus, the leak occurred one week before the game’s release.
8 Super Mario Odyssey And Its Sequel Unveiled Before Their Release
Super Mario Odyssey is one of the earliest released games for the Nintendo Switch back in October 2017. Someone must have gotten an early access copy of the game and began posting screenshots of gameplay on 4chan. The leak was quickly deleted and didn’t spoil any major aspects of the game. The game’s sequel, Super Mario Odyssey 2, was also leaked to be in development in 2019. Although there is no formal release date yet, the leaks look like the first game, but will allegedly add more areas.
7 Yakuza 6: The Song of Life’s Demo Gave Everything Away
Yakuza 6: Song of Life is the seventh entry in the Yakuza franchise, which was published by Sega for the Playstation 4. The action-adventure game was released in 2016 and was the last Yakuza title to feature Kazuma Kiryu as the main protagonist. Prior to its release, SEGA published its demo on the Playstation Network – or what they thought was the demo. The file size puzzled gamers at a whopping 33 gigabytes. The demo was actually the full version of the game later pulled from the shop. Talk about embarrassed!
6 Half-Life 2 Hacker Sentenced To Two Years Probation
Half-Life 2 is the 2004 sequel to Valve’s popular 1998 game, Half-Life. This first-person shooter game, with the addition of playable puzzles, is set 20 years after the events of the first entry and is available to download on Steam. The development for the game took almost five years, so it’s understandable that developers would be upset once the game leaked.
Axel Gembe managed to hack into Valve’s network and leak the source code for an incomplete version of Half-Life 2 months before its release. Gembe stated it was relatively easy to accomplish. He faced $250 million in damages, but only served two years probation.
5 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Leaked Two Weeks Before Release
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. franchise and was released for the Nintendo Switch in December 2018. This highly popular title remains a hot topic among gamers for the release of its Fighters Pass, which introduces a new playable character every so often.
Copies of the game were circulating two weeks before its official release. Certain aspects, like the game’s adventure modes, musical tracks, and Spirits system, were leaked and spread around YouTube, 4Chan, and Reddit. Various fighters from latest Fighters Passes were also leaked on several platforms.
4 Spore Demo Released Early On EA Website
Spore is a 2008 life simulation game published by Electronic Arts. The game allows players to raise different species from their early stages of life into a fully grown creature. Since the developer studio closed, fans of the game probably won’t see an upcoming sequel. The Spore Creature Creator demo was briefly on EA’s website before the official release of the game. It only allowed gamers a sneak peek of the available content in Spore. If gamers are interested, Spore is available on Steam.
3 Russian Website Leaks The Script For Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3 is the third major entry in the Mass Effect franchise, which was developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The game officially released in March 2012, but a prototype was leaked on Xbox Live. The leaks didn’t stop there, as a Russian website also published an early version of the game’s script.
“It’s hard to say something like that having a positive benefit, but if it gets more people to check out Mass Effect 3 that would be a positive benefit, and I think they should, because I think it’s a great game,” states BioWare co-founder, Ray Mzyka, in an interview with EuroGamer.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is the 18th installment in the widely popular video game series, Call of Duty. The game focuses on a special forces unit during World War II and has a similar feel to the previous 2019 installment, Modern Warfare. Although, Vanguard received mixed reviews from critics.
The 2021 game faced several leaks on the internet before its official release. The leaks involved several locations in the game and regards to its campaign. The first few hours of the campaign were leaked on YouTube and spread via a Reddit thread.
1 Horizon Forbidden West Leaked On Twitter One Month Before Its Release
Horizon Forbidden West serves as the action role-playing sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. The game is set to release on February 18 this year for Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. The series focuses on the post-apocalyptic life of Aloy in the western United States on her journey to unveil the secrets behind an illness called the “Red Blight.”
A prototype of the game was recently leaked in a Tweet that has been since taken down. The production team behind Horizon Forbidden West has admitted the screenshots featured in the leak were legit.
