Deborah Ann Woll, Steven DeKnight and Skylar Gaertner of Marvel’s Daredevil celebrate the Netflix show’s recent viewership spike.
Those involved with the acclaimed Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil were evidently excited by the show’s recent surge in popularity among viewers.
It recently came to light that despite having been canceled back in 2018, Netflix’s Daredevil cracked Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly U.S. streaming chart of original series for the week of Dec. 20, 2021 to Dec. 26, 2021, racking up 195 million viewership minutes across its 39 episodes over that period of time. This viewership spike coincided with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw Daredevil lead Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and the final episodes of Hawkeye, which saw Vincent D’Onofrio reprise his role as Daredevil antagonist Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
News of Daredevil‘s revitalized popularity among Netflix subscribers was relayed to Twitter by none other than series alum Deborah Ann Woll, who starred in Daredevil‘s three seasons as Karen Page, appearing in all 39 episodes. Woll’s post was quote-tweeted by television producer Steven DeKnight, who served as showrunner for Daredevil Season 1, which originally hit Netflix in 2015. “Congrats to the cast and crew who poured their hearts into [Daredevil] for three wonderful seasons!” DeKnight wrote.
That said, Woll wasn’t the only Daredevil actor to notice the show’s viewership spike. DeKnight’s post received a reply from Skylar Gaertner, who appeared on Daredevil in a recurring capacity as the younger version of Cox’s Matt Murdock. Gaertner originally appeared in three episodes of Season 1 before reprising his role as young Matt for an additional episode as part of Season 3 in 2018. “Hey Steven,” the actor wrote. “That’s amazing.”
Hey Steven. That’s amazing.👍🏻

Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Netflix’s Daredevil follows Matt Murdock, a lawyer who was involved in an accident as a child that took his sight, but heightened his remaining senses to superhuman levels. After witnessing those who slip through the justice system first-hand, Matt takes it upon himself to protect his neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
Throughout all three seasons, Daredevil was led by Cox as Matt, Woll as Karen and Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson. The show also featured a number of key supporting players, such as Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Vondie Curtis-Hall as Ben Urich, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/the Punisher, Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, Joanne Whalley as Maggie Grace and Jay Ali as Rahul “Ray” Nadeem. Moreover, Daredevil has been lauded for its exceptional villains, such as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) and the aforementioned Kingpin.
All three seasons of Daredevil are streaming on Netflix now.
