The Best Protagonist category has been popular. Consistent with last year, there are six nominations for Best Protagonist, with some having fans wonder who they are while other nominations have fans excited at the potential of their favorite character getting some praise and recognition.

6 Yuji Itadori Gets A Second Shot (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Many fans are happy to see Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen get nominated for Best Protagonist. The show itself got much praise and recognition at the previous Crunchyroll Anime Awards, even winning Best Anime of the Year. Yuji gets a second chance at winning an award, even if it’s not under Best Boy as it was the previous year.

Ultimately, Yuji is one of the best parts of Jujutsu Kaisen, as he brings lightheartedness and fun to the show despite its typical heavy tones. Of course, that doesn’t mean Yuji won’t get aggressive; he will do anything in his power to save his colleagues and friends.

5 Joe Could Win The Championship (Megalobox 2: Nomad)

Gearless Joe from Nomad: Megalobox 2

It’s interesting to see the protagonist of Megalobox get nominated for Best Protagonist, as no one knows his real name. Previously known as Junk Dog, Joe is determined to fight in the Megalonia. What makes Joe intriguing is that he became distinctive in the Megalonia because he fights without using any gear, which made people in the show nickname him “Fearless Joe.”

Fans root for Joe as he’s driven to fight against Yuri and eventually win, achieving his dream. Given the opportunity to be the Megalonia champion, to fans’ surprise, Joe chooses to leave and stay on a vegetable farm.

Fans of the show love Bojji because he’s an underdog. Many people in the Bosse Kingdom don’t think that highly of him, such as thinking that he’s not intelligent when he actually is. Many people root for Bojji as he is willing to do anything even if it puts him in a situation that’s not to his benefit.

3 Odokawa Drives His Way To Best Protagonist Nomination (Odd Taxi)

It’s interesting to see that an everyman taxi driver is in the running for Best Protagonist — and a walrus at that.  Odokawa is, for the most part, the type of person that keeps to himself and always tries to do what he thinks is right.

However, that doesn’t mean that he’s willing to help others. Despite his intimidating appearance that tends to be offputting, Odokawa is the type of person that sympathizes with others. His compassionate nature is exactly why anime fans sympathize with him, especially when fans learn that he is a human that views everyone else as animals.

2 Ai Ohto Strives to Save Her Friend (Wonder Egg Priority)

Wonder Egg Priority connected with many anime fans despite its underwhelming finale. This series takes on heavy subjects in a careful and realistic way. Anime fans watch as Ai Ohto struggles with anxiety and overwhelming sadness as she tries to save her best friend who had tragically taken her own life.

She gives comfort to those that have passed, all of whom appreciate her for her kindness. Meanwhile, Ai struggles outside the dream world to connect with people in the mortal world.
