The Batman debuts Michael Giacchino’s official theme song for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight ahead of the film’s release in March.
The Batman director Matt Reeves has debuted Michael Giacchino’s official theme for the upcoming DC film, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.
“My brilliant friend [Michael Giacchino] wrote this theme before I ever shot a frame of [The Batman],” Reeves wrote on Twitter, having previously teased that the film’s theme would drop on Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. PST. “I can still remember listening to it in my car with [Dylan Clark] before we went onto the stage to do [Robert Pattinson’s] screen test. We both had chills.” Giacchino’s theme can currently be streamed on Apple Music and Spotify, and is available for purchase on the iTunes store.
Taking place during Bruce Wayne’s second year fighting crime as Batman, The Batman follows the Dark Knight as he pursues the enigmatic serial killer known as the Riddler (Paul Dano), who is targeting Gotham City’s elite. However, in the prosses, Bruce uncovers dark secrets pertaining to the corruption in Gotham — and how it ties to his own flesh and blood. Reeves’ film is slated to be the longest solo Batman movie ever made, clocking in at a hefty two hours and 55 minutes.
In addition to Dano as the Riddler and Pattinson as Bruce Wayne himself, The Batman stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin and Barry Keoghan as Gotham City Police Department officer Stanley Merkel, among others.
The Batman is reportedly expected to kick off a new shared universe of DC films at Warner Bros. Pictures. The film also reportedly serves as the first entry in its own trilogy, with Pattinson having already mapped out potential plans for two sequels. Additionally, two spinoff series are currently in the works for HBO Max — one focusing on the GCPD and another focusing on the Penguin.
In a post shared to Twitter on Jan. 20, Reeves revealed that he had just finished quality-controlling The Batman, sharing a photo of the film’s title card on a massive IMAX screen. “Looked and sounded so incredible,” the director wrote. “What a beautiful, immersive format.”
The Batman premieres in theaters on March 4 before hitting HBO Max on April 19.
