Rainbow Six Extraction’s Monolith Gardens Hotel has three sub-zones that feature open and vertical layouts prime for stealth and plenty of caution.
New York City is the first location players have access to in Rainbow Six Extraction. Within New York City, players can choose between the Monolith Gardens, Liberty Island and Police Station, each of which is comprised of three sub-zones. This guide will walk players through the first location, the Monolith Gardens Hotel, and offer tips to navigate its sub-zones, the Monolith Tavern, Monolith Spa and Penthouse Suites, so players, whether in a team or solo, know what to expect and can better avoid going Missing In Action.
The Monolith Gardens offer plenty of open spaces and hallways with numerous connecting access points. While each sub-zone is similar as part of a larger whole, they each have striking features that set them apart. Which sub-zone players enter first, second and third in an Incursion is always randomized, as are the mission objectives. Furthermore, players should note that the extraction points and airlocks do not change locations, although the airlock players enter and exit when heading into a new sub-zone will vary.
Don’t Get Lost In The Monolith Spa
The Monolith Spa is the easiest of the three Monolith Gardens sub-zones to get lost in. Its winding side paths, from the gym, daycare and meditation room, converge at the open pool area, which is usually rife with Parasite nests. This sub-zone has many dead-ends, including one where a giant Archæan Tree growth outside a shower room blocks a straight shot to the extraction pad, forcing players instead to navigate through the showers. Players will want to exercise the most caution in this sub-zone, as it’s difficult to secure many of the rooms effectively. Archæans can either vault through windows or break down walls. Since many of the walls can be destroyed between the twisting paths, especially in the shower area, this sub-zone has the greatest route variance of the three sub-zones.
Sneak Through The Monolith Tavern
The Monolith Tavern houses the hotel’s store, bar and restaurant, along with a telephone that will not stop ringing. These are big, connecting rooms, but while they may not have tight walls, they do have internal dividers like shop displays and storage shelves that prevent these spaces from feeling too open and exposed. Players have plenty of cover to sneak around safely. This level, in particular, uses staircases leading to an upper level so players can move over or under any wandering Archæans. As a result, there’s considerable room to maneuver if players need to throw a smoke grenade for a quick escape to a safer location that’s out of sight. Or, if players want to avoid an enemy that would otherwise be difficult to pass, they can do so by traveling on a different room level.
Verticality Dominates The Penthouse Suites
The Penthouse Suites map features two multi-level suites separated by a rooftop courtyard. This layout highlights large, vertical open areas that are connected by multiple access points both indoors and outside. When securing an area, players need to be mindful both of open doors and all of the windows, ledges and staircases that provide easy access to upper and lower levels. Since each area has many layers, especially when inside the suites themselves, players need to watch corners carefully. The exception is when heading to the lower level of the suites where the laundry room and police-taped elevators are; these hallways become narrow and allow for easier containment, but in exchange, the lighting is much dimmer.
Many of the suites’ hallways give the illusion of narrow confinement, but most walls are destructible. Operators can kill unsuspecting Parasites through the walls, but the Parasites can easily break through and overwhelm Operators who may be looking for an escape. Once the map is clear of Archæans, the Penthouse Suites is actually a nice location to run through.
