Disney+’s India Service Includes Deleted Scenes for Hawkeye

India’s streaming service Disney+ Hotstar released 13 deleted scenes for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye series, starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld.

Several Hawkeye deleted scenes are currently available on Disney+ Hotstar.

Disney+ Hotstar, the version of the streaming service available in India, included at least 13 deleted scenes from Hawkeye, according to a post shared on Reddit. Included in those deleted scenes is the backstory of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye, which expands on his childhood, as well as more footage of a young Maya Lopez and her “Uncle,” Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

One of these deleted scenes indicated that Wilson Fisk was intended to appear much earlier in the series during Episode 3, “Echoes,” instead of his debut in the sixth and final episode. At the time of writing, the deleted scenes are not available on Disney+ in the United States. However, a recently released blooper reel for the Marvel Studios/Disney+ series featured unseen footage of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin as well as Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne.

Following the debut of the six-episode first season of Hawkeye, Netflix saw a significant spike in viewership for Marvel Television’s Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox, where D’Onofrio first appeared as Wilson Fisk, a role he reprised for the Disney+ series. According to the report, Daredevil‘s three seasons garnered 195 million viewership minutes between Dec. 20, 2021 to Dec. 26, 2021, across its 39 episodes.

The deleted scenes on Hotstar also look to offer more footage of a young Kate Bishop, who appeared in Hawkeye Episode 1, “Never Meet Your Heroes,” which served as an origin story for the older Kate, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld, who was inspired by Clint Barton after he rescued her during the Battle of New York.

The first season of Hawkeye consisted of six, hour-long episodes, though the series was originally intended to be a spinoff feature film exploring the Avenger in depth. However, with the inclusion of the Battle of New York, the introduction of new villains to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the relationship between Clint and Kate, the story was deemed too big for a solo film alone.

“The big question was, ‘How are we going to fit all of this into a two-hour timeframe?’ We have an Avenger whose backstory we haven’t quite had time to explore yet,” producer Trinh Tran said in a previous interview. “We also have to introduce a new character [Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop], as well as allow enough time for them to bond and create that special dynamic that everybody finds so appealing in the comics. So, in moving it over, it allowed us six hours, three times as much time, which really gave us the creative flexibility we needed to tell the story.”

The first season of Hawkeye is streaming now on Disney+.
