Although heroes come in very different shapes and sizes, they all have something in common: their ability to inspire others. Heroes not only fight villains to keep the peace in the world but by setting a good example they encourage regular people to do the right thing on a daily basis.

However, not every superhero is a respectable member of society from the beginning, and many Arrowverse characters are a testament to this. Some of them even tried their luck as villains first, which causes others to believe they are not cut out to be heroes. Because of this, they have to earn people’s trust before answering their true calling.

As the former prince of Daxam, Mon-El started off on Supergirl as a conceited and entitled man who only cared about himself. Although Kara tried to help him get accustomed to life on Earth, he constantly found ways to escape her lessons and indulge in certain vices.

Fortunately, his heart turns out to be in the right place, and inspired by Supergirl, he becomes a superhero. Although Mon-El has to leave Earth after the atmosphere is poisoned with lead, he eventually returns as the leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the year 3000.

9 Mary Hamilton Turned Out To Be More Than An Influencer

Mary Hamilton is Kate Kane’s step-sister, an apparently frivolous influencer who turns out to be much less shallow than everyone thought. Although she seems to only care about her image, Mary actually spends the first season running an illegal clinic to help people in Gotham, and even after it was closed she decided to reopen it, this time legally.

Sadly, in the third season of Batwoman, Mary was turned into a meta-human after being infected by one of Pamela Isley’s vines and she turned her back against her friends. However, many fans expect her to reconsider her decision and show everyone that her true nature makes her a hero.


8 Nora Darhk Changed Her Demonic Nature To Become A Fairy Godmother

Nora Darhk is the daughter of Damien Darhk, a dangerous villain from Arrow. Since her father ended up in jail for his crimes and her mother died, Nora grew up without guidance, and so she became a vessel for Mallus, a time demon. Regardless, she started questioning her loyalty to him and eventually had a change of heart.

Even though everyone considered Nora a villain at the beginning, she showed true regret for her actions and accepted to pay for her crimes. After this, she joined the Legends, and eventually, she even became a Fairy Godmother and devoted her life to helping children in need.


7 Leonard Snart Was Never a Simple Thief

Also known as Captain Cold, Leonard Snart was a professional thief who eventually stumbled upon a S.T.A.R. Labs cold gun created by Cisco Ramon and decided to keep it as his signature weapon. Since he was nothing but a low-life, nobody had big expectations of him, and even his abusive father considered him useless.

However, Snart proved everyone wrong. First, he became an occasional ally for Team Flash, and after this, he joined the Legends of Tomorrow, fighting alongside them against Vandal Savage. He eventually sacrificed himself to destroy the Oculus and save his teammates, so he died a hero.


6 Lena Luthor Proved To Everyone That Her Lastname Did Not Define Her

Luckily she soon showed her good-hearted nature and so Lena managed to earn everyone’s trust. Although her heroic nature flickered for a moment after learning Kara’s true identity in the fifth season of Supergirl, Lena ended up as a valuable member of the Super Friends.

Although he was wary about his role as a member of the Legends of Tomorrow, Mick soon realized he enjoyed being a hero, and slowly but steadily, he turned his life around. This was an unexpected change of heart for a man who seemed destined to be a criminal since he was younger.

However, once he was transformed into a metahuman, it did not take long for Ralph to find his true calling in life. With the help of the Team Flash, he became Elongated Man, a superhero with an elastic body, who is always willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good.

Regardless, it happened. After spending 5 years on Lian Yu, Oliver returned to Starling City as Green Arrow, a new hero, and he even became the city’s major after several years. By the end of the show, Oliver did the most selfless thing a hero could do: he gave his life for the universe.
