Priyanka Bose explains her process for forming her own version of the Aes Sedai Alanna Mosvani in Amazon’s The Wheel of Time.

Priyanka Bose, who plays Alanna Mosvani of the Green Ajah in Amazon’s epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time, explained her decisions regarding how to form her version of the character.

In an interview with News9 Live, Bose was asked if she had read the books to prepare for her role. “After I was cast, I read a lot about the series of novels and I learned about the legacy it carries,” Bose answered. “I got a sense of who Alanna is as a character from whatever I read, and the fans don’t really like her. In this first season I didn’t want to read too much because I wanted to get my feet in, and make her mine. And now, I can play with her. Now when I read the books, I won’t be influenced by her persona in the books. This gives me the opportunity to create her and play her.”

Bose wasn’t aware of the series of novels created by Robert Jordan at first, but she had a good feeling after the audition. “[M]y intuition was telling me that this was mine, and whatever little I had read of the show… it resonated with me very deeply,” she said. “The character seemed like a warrior and I really felt like I could do this.”

When a conflict with a different show being shot by Amazon in India arose, Bose was faced with a decision. “My agents and the managers told me about the enormity of The Wheel of Time, and I even felt it in my gut that it was something I wanted to be a part of,” she explained. “And since then, I’ve been meeting the show’s talent that hails from across the globe and I think this will be an experience that I will forever treasure for the rest of my life.”

Alanna has played an important role in the series so far, helping to gentle the false Dragon Logain when he breaks through the shield placed on him by the Aes Sedai. She shares a strong bond with not one but two Warders, Maksim and Ihvon. The Green, or Battle, Ajah are known for bonding more than one Warder at once. She has also aligned herself with Moiraine and is visibly upset when the Blue Sister is banished from the White Tower in Episode 6, “The Flame of Tar Valon”.

The first seven episodes of The Wheel of Time are streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. The Season 1 finale airs Friday, Dec. 24.
