In the footage, which was released on Twitter by PlayStation, sees Peter attempting to run away with an item merchandise for No Way Home identifies as “The Box.” Strange initially uses his coat to tangle Peter up before transporting him to the Mirror Dimension. While Peter uses his powers to keep getting control of the Box, Doctor Strange explains that Spider-Man can’t change the fate of the villains that he’s fighting from other dimensions.

Introduced in 2016’s Doctor Strange, the Mirror Dimension essentially allows magic users to practice and fight without exposing themselves to the public. This also helps to limit the damage that they’re able to do in the real world. The Mirror Dimension appeared briefly in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War when Doctor Strange unsuccessfully attempted to trap Thanos inside of it.

The villains about whom Peter and Doctor Strange are talking in this clip come from previous Sony film franchises, specifically the trilogy helmed by Sam Raimi and The Amazing Spider-Man. In No Way Home, a spell intended to re-hide Spider-Man’s secret identity after Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) exposed it to the world at the end of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home goes awry. This causes such villains as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Max Dillon/Electro (Jamie Foxx) to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Marvel and Sony planned to hide those No Way Home villains from marketing materials and instead make Doctor Strange seem like Spider-Man’s foe.

While villains from their franchise will appear in No Way Home, it’s unclear at this time if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Garfield, for his part, has indicated that he’s not playing Spider-Man in No Way Home, though that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t appear as Peter.

Following the events of No Way Home, Cumberbatch will reprise his role as the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Directed by Sam Raimi, the sequel is slated to release May 6, 2022.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home is slated to release on Dec. 17 and, in addition to those mentioned above, features performances from Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Tickets for the movie are available now.
