Produced by Liden Films, a first look at Child of Kamiari Month premiered at Anime Expo Lite 2021 in July. The film began as a crowdfunding campaign in 2019 until it closed in June 2021. While it was originally intended to release in 2020, delays brought on by the coronavius (COVID-19) pandemic pushed the film’s debut back significantly.

Directed by Takana Shirai (Children of the Sea, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I: The Egg of the King), Child of Kamiari Month follows Kanna, a young girl who has lost her love of running after her mother passes away. However, after she encounters Shiro, a rabbit and messenger of the gods, and Yato, an ogre boy, Kanna crosses the boundary between humans and gods. The film is inspired by folklore from across Japan about gods gathering at the Izumo Taisha Shrine during Kamiarizauki, which is another name for October in the lunar calendar.

Child of Kamiari Month‘s creative team includes Haruka Sagawa (Call of the Night) as the character designer, Yoshikazu Iwanami (Sword Art Online the Movie – Progressive – Aria of a Starless Night) as the sound director and Kazuya Sakamoto (Kill la Kill) as a storyboard artist. Aju Makita (True Mothers) stars as Kanna alongside Maaya Sakamoto (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Shiro and Miyu Irino (Spirited Away) as Yato.

The streaming service is collaborating with WIT Studio (Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s SongThe Ancient Magus’ Bridge) to create Bubble, an action-focused movie that defies the laws of physics. The story is set in an alternate universe, where Tokyo experiences a loss of gravity as strange bubbles rain down from the sky, and follows Hikibi, a parkour enthusiast, and Uta, a strange blue-haired girl who appears out of the bubbles.

Bubble‘s creative team features many anime industry veterans like writer Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica), director Tetsurō Araki (Attack on Titan) and composer Hiroyuki Sawano (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by LightNo Guns Life). Beyond Bubble and Child of Kamiari Month, other anime titles that will be premiering in 2022 include Cyberpunk: EdgerunnersBlue Lock, My Isekai Life and new seasons of The Case Study of Vanitas and Made in Abyss.

Child of Kamiari Month premires on Netflix Feb. 8, 2022.
