Based on the Ubisoft VR game of the same name, Werewolves Within is a horror-comedy whodunnit set in the rural town of Beaverfield. The film follows the perspective of new-to-town forest ranger Finn Wheeler, who is swiftly introduced to the mayhem of the rural settlement. Beaverfield’s residents have been divided by the arrival of gas executive Sam Parker, who’s trying to get their approval for the construction of a gas pipeline. But soon after Finn’s arrival, all the town’s generators are slashed to bits, and a nasty storm blocks off the roads leading to the outside world.
The discovery of a brutally mangled corpse only escalates things, and the cast soon finds themselves in a hostile atmosphere of increasing paranoia and bloodshed. Here’s every single death in Werewolves Within and the circumstances that proceed them.
Dave Sherman
Jeanine Sherman’s husband Dave dies before the movie even begins in earnest, used as a creepy teaser for the horror yet to come. He’s seen messaging someone on his phone in the forest outside the lodge he and Jeanine run together. It’s not clear what he was doing, but the consideration he gives to his wedding ring makes it seem likely he was considering some form of infidelity. Dave is then mauled by Cecily Moore, who takes his mailman’s outfit and phone.
Cha-Chi
While obviously not as impactful as the deaths of the human characters in the film, little Cha-Chi’s death is what kickstarts the events of the film in earnest. The dog is eaten by Cecily during the night, and Trisha’s resulting despair over the canine’s death is what gathers the majority of the cast to the lodge. This leaves Cecily plenty of time to sabotage the town’s generators while also giving her the collar she later plants at Emerson Flint’s home to draw suspicion to the hunter.
Dr. Jane Ellis
Dr. Jane Ellis is a prominent conservationist present in Beaverfield to oppose Sam Parker’s plans of a pipeline and also an expert in studying animals. She collects Cecily’s hair samples from the scene of Dave Sherman’s death and Cha-Chi’s leash, confirming through DNA analysis that they belong to a canine but don’t match any species in her database. Ellis works herself up into a panicked frenzy with that discovery and a bottle of whiskey, shooting at the rest of the cast when they knock on the door of her room. Parker breaks into the back door of the room, and multiple gunshots are fired. He later claims she committed suicide, but it’s also possible the gas executive forcefully removed the biggest roadblock to his plans of a pipeline.
Devon Wolfson
Devon Wolfson is part of a “power couple” with Joachim Wolfson, with the pair moving to Beaverfield from the city to open a yoga studio. They’re one of the few residents of the town opposed to the pipeline and find themselves in constant arguments with Pete and Trisha. This is also the later cause of Devon’s death, as Trisha murders him in the woods with a syrup tap in an attempt to assure the pipeline’s construction.
Marcus
Marcus and Gwen are the wildest residents of the town, though it’s unclear what exactly Marcus does for a living. But while he’s the most vocal advocate of “werewolves” being the culprit of the town’s problems, he doesn’t live to see that he was correct. Taking advantage of the chaos and fear caused by Cecily’s murders, he breaks into Trisha’s house, stealing several valuables before being chased out into the street by Finn, Cecily and Joachim. He’s then run over by Gwen, who accidentally rams him with the back of the truck as she pulls up to be his getaway driver.
Gwen
Gwen is Marcus’s partner, but it’s revealed fairly early in the film she slept with Pete Anderton while he was married. She’s the town mechanic, operating a car repair shop while also managing the town’s only snowplow. This proves to be fairly important later in the film, mostly because Cecily is holding back on delivering a fuel injector Gwen needs to operate it. She’s killed in the flurry of violence that comes later in the film, with Trish shooting her for sleeping with her husband.
Pete Anderton
Pete runs Anderton Farms with his wife Trisha and is a bit of a creep. He sleeps with Gwen while married to Trisha, and spends most of the film making unwanted advances towards Cecily Moore, unaware that she’s the film’s eponymous werewolf. She bites off his hand as revenge for his lewd behavior and escapes before Gwen can open fire on her. One of these bullets hits Pete, however, and he spends the rest of the film slowly bleeding out. He dies shortly before his wife, with neither of his wounds being properly treated.
Trisha Anderton
Trisha Anderton runs her family’s farm with her husband Pete and is the town resident most in favor of the pipeline. She wants to use the money to open a craft store and argues bitterly with the Wolfsons, who stand in opposition to her dream. She kills Devon to get rid of him and later threatens Joachim, Finn and Cecily with a gun before being distracted by Pete’s death. This gives Joachim an opening to swing at her with a fire poker, knocking her headfirst into the open fireplace.
Joachim Wolfson
Joachim manages to escape into the film’s second-to-last confrontation with Cecily and Finn but is shot with a crossbow by Sam Parker, who wants to hunt down the trio to make sure they aren’t werewolves. He spends the rest of the fight slowly bleeding out on the snow, but pops back up to shoot at Parker’s gas-burning model pipeline. It explodes, killing Parker and causing Joachim to expire from his crossbow wound.
Sam Parker
Sam Parker is a gas executive from Midland Gas, staying in Beaverfield to convince its residents to allow the construction of a pipeline. He’s also an avid hunter, tracking multiple suspicious deaths in the newspapers with some interest. This doesn’t become important until later in the film, when he uses a powerful crossbow to hunt down Finn, Cecily and Joachim. He almost overpowers the trio but is taken out in a blaze of glory when Joachim shoots a gas-burning monument he’d erected in the middle of town.
Cecily Moore
Cecily is the film’s final death, but also the architect of most of the mayhem that occurs throughout the movie. She slashes the town’s generators to prevent contact with the outside world and eats Cha-Chi to start a panic and frame Emerson Flint. The resulting chaos causes most of the town’s residents to turn on each other, with Cecily stoking the conflict along the way. She’s eventually left to fight Finn but is temporarily stopped by Emerson and finally put down by Jeanine Sherman, who makes use of Sam Parker’s crossbow.
