How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom

How a realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom takes the isekai genre in a rather uncommon direction. The main character, an aspiring civil servant named Kazuya Souma, gets transported to another world. He’s expected to fight as a hero against the Demon Lord’s forces.

However, Souma instead focuses on strengthening the country of Elfrieden Kingdom economically so that they don’t have to go to war at all. He even gets the idea to sell off the hero armor he would have been using in battles to make a quick buck. This cerebral approach to exploring a fantasy world may not be as action-packed as its contemporaries, but it’s still fascinating and refreshing.

The World Ends with You The Animation

Anime The World Ends With You The Animation Street Fight

Based on the hit Square Enix game, this series features Neku Sakuraba, a boy who has died and become a part of the Reaper Game in the Underground. Whoever wins gets revived, but whoever loses is erased from existence. The series features cool character designs, an awesome soundtrack, and a breakneck pace.

What’s really interesting about this anime is how people have been introduced to it. Any gamers who have played Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance may recognize the characters in the series as the odd ones out in the game’s cast. They are characters featured in that game who seem to come from neither Kingdom Hearts, Disney nor Final Fantasy but are instead from something else entirely. As it turns out, these characters all come from The World Ends with You. People can either play the game to get the full story or watch the anime released this year.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba

Inosuke Zennitsu Nezuko and Tanjirou from Demon Slayer

Many anime fans are readily familiar with Demon Slayer, but if they’re not, the plot is in the name. Tanjiro Kamado is on a heart-pounding, tear-inducing, emotionally-stimulating journey to track down the demon who killed his family and, hopefully, find a way to turn his sister Nezuko back into a human.

There are elements of the manga that are standard among Shōnen Jump anime, but the presentation of the anime is phenomenal. The anime features stellar animation and a moving soundtrack that elevate the series to sensational new heights, making it a must-see for any anime fan.

The series has recently started its second season, which is available on Hulu. The first few episodes of the season are mainly used to recap the events of the Mugen Train movie released within the last year. However, that arc is coming to a close, and Tanjiro and his friends from the Demon Slayer Corp. are getting ready for the Entertainment District Arc.

The Case Study of Vanitas

Vanitas tries to cure vampires from aggression

The Case Study of Vanitas has a classy take on vampires. Set in an alternate 19th century Paris, the series revolves around the vampire Noé and the human doctor Vanitas. The latter uses a mysterious grimoire to heal ailing vampires, yet the book is supposedly meant to bring about the destruction of all vampires. Besides uncovering the mystery behind the grimoire, the series itself is a generally fun watch: the characters are engaging, the lore is deep, the art and animation are gorgeous, the music is catchy. There are even elements of romance and comedy that can be sweet and entertaining respectively. The series as a whole is uniquely stylish and has a little of something for everyone.
