Kathleen Kennedy has reportedly been granted a three-year contract extension at Lucasfilm, leaving her in control of Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will be sticking around the company for at least another few years.

According to journalist Matthew Belloni of Puck, Kennedy reportedly “recently re-upped her deal for another three years,” leaving her in control of franchises such as Star WarsIndiana Jones and Willow until at least 2024.

Kennedy’s career at Lucasfilm began in summer 2012 when she was brought on to serve as co-chair of the company with George Lucas. After Disney bought Lucasfilm in late 2012, Lucas stepped down and selected Kennedy as the studio’s new president.

Kennedy’s tenure at Lucasfilm has been tumultuous and full of controversy. She fired Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from Solo due to “creative differences” and brought in Ron Howard to complete the film, only to see it bomb at the box office with $393 million at the global box office off a $275 million budget. Director Colin Trevorrow also left his project, The Rise of Skywalker, after sparring with Kennedy over the script. J. J. Abrams took over the directorial duties and, while the film was a financial success, it received lukewarm reviews from critics and audiences.

Most recently, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, which was set to release in December 2023, was delayed indefinitely due to creative differences between Jenkins, senior vice president Michelle Rejwan and Kennedy. Other attempts at Star Wars films by Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss have languished in development hell.

At the same time, Kennedy has found much success in the TV world of Star Wars, launching the franchise’s first live-action TV series, The Mandalorian, on Disney+ to critical and fan acclaim. On deck are the highly anticipated Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Was Kenobi and Andor, all of which count Kennedy as an executive producer. She is also working with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige on his Star Wars film.

Traveling away from the galaxy far, far away, Kennedy is also overseeing Indiana Jones 5 and the Willow Disney+ TV series. Harrison Ford’s latest adventure as the famed explorer will debut in summer 2023, while Willow just rounded out its cast.
