Eiichiro Oda Congratulates Gosho Aoyama For Detective Conan’s 100th Volume – Interest

“I’ve never met him, but he feels like a comrade in arms.”

One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda congratulated Detective Conan manga creator Gosho Aoyama in the latest Weekly Shonen Jump “Mangaka Musings” column on Monday: “I’ve never met him, but he feels like a comrade in arms. I know how tough getting to 100 volumes is, Aoyama-san! Congrats on 100 volumes of Conan!” Viz Media posted the translation of the mangaka’s comments on its blog.

Detective Conan‘s 100th compiled book volume shipped in Japan on October 18, straight on the heels of the publication of One Piece‘s 100th volume on September 3. Although the two artists draw for rival magazines (Shogakukan‘s Weekly Shonen Sunday and Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump, respectively), Oda’s comment indicates his long-time awareness and respect for the other’s work.

Aoyama launched the Detective Conan manga in 1994. Oda began serializing the One Piece manga in 1997. Both series have inspired popular and still ongoing television anime adaptations.
