October was yet another cracking month for eShop gems, with plenty of new games to choose from that are worthy of your time.
These awards aim to celebrate the best of Nintendo’s digital store, giving some love and attention to the games that could so easily be missed in the Switch’s ever-growing library.
So, let’s get started. Here are the best Switch eShop games of October 2021!
Honourable Mentions:
While these titles didn’t quite make our top three this month, they’re still certainly worth checking out:
Publisher: New Blood Interactive / Developer: New Blood Interactive
In third place this month we have Dusk, an incredible port of 2018’s Quake-inspired shooter.
It came up against some pretty strong competition this month, but in our review, we said that Dusk is “one hell of an impressive piece of software and possibly the single best Unity port to Switch we’ve ever seen.” Needless to say, if you’re into your old school shooters and wish there were more games out there that were as good as Quake, get this downloaded and you’re guaranteed to have a good time.
Publisher: ZA/UM / Developer: ZA/UM
Moving up into second we have Disco Elysium: The Final Cut which, along with our first-place finisher below, absolutely gobbled up the staff votes this month.
With some of the best writing ever seen in a video game, a great choice-driven narrative featuring wonderful dialogue, and boasting an impressively high replay value, this RPG is not to be missed. We described it as “an absolute triumph” in our review, praising it for being a truly unique gaming experience – which is pretty hard to come by these days.
This is one of the best RPGs available on Switch, so what are you waiting for?
Publisher: Enhance Games / Developer: Resonair
If Disco Elysium gobbled up votes, Tetris Effect: Connected devoured them.
Yes, taking first place this month, Tetris Effect: Connected is perhaps the best iteration of one of the most iconic video games of all time. While some will say that the VR versions of Tetris Effect are where it’s at, the Switch version’s portability makes this port equally as essential in our eyes, letting you take the best version of Tetris with you wherever you go.
It’s hard not to love Tetris, and the NL team really loves Tetris Effect: Connected. Go on, treat yourself.
< Nintendo Life eShop Selects – September 2021
How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking that month’s top prize.
