Spider-Man Wins Squid Game in Sensational Mashup Art by InHyuk Lee

[ad_1]

Comic book artist InHyuk Lee combines Marvel’s Spider-Man and Netflix’s Squid Game to create a new bloody piece of artwork.

Artist InHyuk Lee merged Marvel’s Spider-Man and Netflix’s Squid Game in a new piece of fan art.

Lee’s art depicts a triumphant (and bloody) Spider-Man, dressed in the now-iconic Squid Game green tracksuit and standing over the remains of defeated symbiotes like Venom, Scream and Carnage. Fans reacted favorably to the mashup, with some even inquiring about prints. Others have speculated that the number 015 on Spider-Man’s shirt is a reference to Amazing Fantasy #15, the first comic book the hero appeared in.

Squid Game was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and was released worldwide earlier on Sept. 17. The show quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, attracting more than 142 million viewers after only 28 days of availability and, according to Netflix, nearly two-thirds of the streaming service’s users completed the series within 23 days.

On top of that, Squid Game garnered more than 1.4 billion hours viewed within 23 days as well, surpassing Bridgerton as Netflix’s most popular series launch of all time. The series has been nominated for the ‘Breakthrough Series – Long Form’ category at the Gotham Awards and the ‘Bingeworthy Show of the Year’ category at the People’s Choice Awards.

Lee’s fusion of Spider-Man and Squid Game isn’t the only recent example of fanart combining two unlikely franchises: Buster Moody merged Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghost in the Shell to create a robotic, anthropomorphized turtle, and Malin Falch released two images that thrust Link from The Legend of Zelda into Dark Souls‘ hollow world. Similarly, Downright Shoddy reimagined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the style of Family Guy.

The first nine episodes of Squid Game is now available to stream on Netflix.
