No Time to Die: James Bond’s Most Brutal Kill Is Primo

In No Time to Die, as much as James Bond wants to punish the main villain in Safin, he saves his most brutal kill for someone else in the finale.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for No Time to Die, in theaters now.

No Time to Die features James Bond’s (Daniel Craig) most personal mission ever as Safin (Rami Malek) kidnaps people close to him to manipulate the hero. Safin’s even playing Spectre, making it clear he’s a lone wolf with his terrorist organization, shaping a tougher mission for Bond to track. However, when Bond finally lands on Safin’s mysterious chemical-producing island, the hero’s most brutal kill surprisingly doesn’t end up being the main villain.

Now, Safin deserves the cruelest punishment, as he knows Mathilde is Bond’s daughter with Madeleine, ergo why he’s using them as bait and an insurance policy while he tries to infect a vast portion of the world with a virus. But it’s his right-hand man, Primo, that Bond saves the sickest punishment for, as Primo caused Bond a lot of heartache throughout No Time to Die.

Firstly, Primo was there when Vesper Lynd’s bomb blew up in the beginning and attacked the former 007, all as part of Safin’s game. Safin was using them as tools since he wanted Spectre dead, using Bond to get to Blofeld, all while Primo helped kidnap the virologist, Obruchev, to finish the master plan. Bond knows Primo also worked to get his family over to the island and played a part in killing his CIA buddy, Felix, so he’s got a special whipping in mind.

And it comes due to Q’s new tool in No Time to Die, a watch that basically generates an EMP pulse to fry any circuitry around. Bond knows Primo has a bio-tech eye that allows him to communicate with his boss. So when they scramble in a chamber and Primo gets the upper hand and starts choking Bond out, the agent presses his watch to Primo’s face.

He activates the pulse and it travels through to Primo’s eye, blowing it up. The mercenary dies as if he’s in a Mortal Kombat Fatality, with Bond, out of breath, then joking about it. As Q radios in, Bond says, “I showed him your watch. It blew his mind,” giving a nasty smirk, as he knows Primo deserved everything coming to him.

It adds to Bond’s array of brutal deaths in No Time to Die, including dropping a jeep on the CIA traitor, Ash, and blowing Safin’s brains out. But what stands out in Primo’s murder is how it plays up the tech aspect of the franchise, moving Bond from having a Batmobile disguised as a fancy car to something so simple yet so powerful on his wrist. And more so, while he’s cold and hateful here, Bond does it with the style, swagger and priceless attitude for which he’s always been known.

To see Daniel Craig’s Bond pull off this badass murder, No Time to Die is in theaters now.
