The Power Rangers’ Deadliest Enemy Returns

[ad_1]

The Ranger’s worst enemy returns in Power Rangers #11, and the deadly foe wastes no time killing one of the team’s last remaining allies.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #11, available now from Boom! Studios.

In the face of the greatest threats they have ever known, the Omega Rangers have gone to incredible lengths to try and save the universe from utter devastation. Unfortunately, among the tough decisions they have made was kidnapping Lord Drakkon in the hopes that he might have some valuable insight into their situation. Over the past months Drakkon has been more of a help than a hinderance, even getting the crew out of some tight spots when they needed him. However, in Power Rangers #11 (by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, and Ed Dukeshire), the former tyrant has chosen to show his true colors, spilling the blood of a Rangers ally in the process.

While the Omega Rangers scour the cosmos for their last living god, Xi and Drakkon are left to observe the action from the bridge of the Spectrum II high overhead. Despite Drakkon’s joking that the Rangers are probably already dead, Xi reminds the former despot that they would have never come upon the Yellow Emissary without his help. All that they have been through together, from Drakkon helping rescue the team from interstellar vampires to getting them where they are now is enough to make it appear that he has turned over a new leaf.

Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth. As soon as he is out of sight Drakkon gruesomely digs a key out from under his flesh, and with it the collar that has kept him at bay is unlocked. Not only that, but it seems as though Drakkon has been working alongside the Empyreals long enough for him to somehow get ahold of the Black Dragon Power Coin as well. With that, the evil Lord Drakkon is officially returned, and the Power Rangers potentially have a new problem to deal with.

While Lord Drakkon has traditionally been one of the worst villains in the Power Rangers universe, his turn still comes as a surprise. Even worse is the fact that he immediately turns on Xi, preventing the Omega Rangers from being alerted to the situation at hand, and leaving them stranded for the Empyreals to find.

Once Xi realizes what is happening he immediately leaps into action in full extermination mode. As much as he is ready for this confrontation, nothing could save Xi from Lord Drakkon’s blade. With his final strike Drakkon drives his dagger straight through Xi’s face, shattering the robot’s visor and presumably ending the life of one of the Omega Rangers’ oldest and closest allies.

Now that Lord Drakkon has returned, there is no telling what this means for the Power Rangers. Had he not killed Xi, this might not have been such an ominous reveal, but cutting the Omega Rangers off from the one real source of help they had left does not bode well for whatever he has planned.

It’s unlikely that Drakkon would pledge his allegiance to the Empyreals considering how much he knows about them, but the recent revelations regarding the history of these interdimensional threats, as well as the fact that they are working at the behest of the Supreme Guardian Zartus calls into question exactly what the Empyreals’ endgame could be. Regardless, there is now the strong possibility that Lord Drakkon will be the next big threat to the universe, granted he and the Rangers survive their current plight.
