Boruto Uzumaki is the protagonist of Masashi Kishimoto’s Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series and quite easily one of the most intriguing characters in the story. Unlike most protagonists, Boruto is a character who divides opinion.
His start to his journey as a ninja was quite rough as he hardly respected the pain that ninja had to go through and wasn’t even sure why he was becoming one. However, with time, Boruto has come to love and respect the ninja way. As such, Boruto is a character who has done plenty of both good and bad which, at times, has changed how his enemies see him.
10 EARNED: When He Fought Against Naruto Uzumaki In A Sparring Match
Boruto faced off against Naruto shortly after the events of the Momoshiki arc in a battle that saw him use all of his skills. With the newfound powers that he’d gained over the months, Boruto was able to impress his opponent quite a lot. He relied on techniques such as Thunderclap Arrow and was able to perform a very high-level Water Release technique as well. Undoubtedly, Naruto was proud of the fighter his son had become at that moment.
9 LOST: When He Cheated In The Fight Against Shikadai Nara
Shikadai Nara is one of Boruto’s best friends and an incredible shinobi himself. The two came face-to-face as enemies during the Chunin Exams and engaged in an enthralling fight that ended in Boruto’s victory. Sadly, Boruto was actually cornered by Shikadai and was about to lose the battle. In an act of desperation, he decided to use the Scientific Ninja Tools and relied on their power to get the better of the Nara shinobi.
8 EARNED: When He Defeated Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Momoshiki Otsutsuki appeared as one of the biggest antagonists in the Boruto story, and he made his move during the Vs Momoshiki arc. Toward the end of the arc, Momoshiki was defeated by the combined effort of Naruto and Sasuke, along with Boruto. While Naruto and Sasuke played the most important role in weakening him, it was Boruto who struck the finishing blow and defeated Momoshiki. The Otsutsuki was quite surprised to know that Boruto was actually a capable user of the Jougan and had Otsutsuki powers.
7 LOST: When He Cheated In The Fight Against Shinki
Shortly after defeating Shikadai Nara, Boruto faced Sunagakure’s Shinki in battle in the finals of the Chunin Exams. Although he was hesitant to cheat against him at first, eventually, he did so because he wanted to impress his father.
Using the shinobi tool, he made use of Lightning Release: Purple Electricity and took Shinki down in a single hit. After being caught, Boruto lost the respect of not only his father but also his enemy Shinki and all the other people watching him.
6 EARNED: When Boruto Uzumaki Fought Ao Of Kirigakure
Ao was a splendid shinobi from Kirigakure back in the day, however, after surviving the Fourth Great Ninja War, he joined the Kara and worked as an Outer member of the organization. Ao was one of the main antagonists in Boruto following the defeat of Momoshiki Otsutsuki. He fought Team 7 on his own but eventually, lost to Boruto’s trickery and skill. Despite having renounced his shinobi self, Ao gained immense respect for Boruto and even saved him at one point.
5 LOST: When He Was Similar To Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Momoshiki Otsutsuki and Boruto share quite a lot of similarities, and one of the biggest ones of them all pointed out when the latter claims his powers are exactly like Boruto’s. To make progress, Boruto relied on Scientific Ninja Tools in the Chunin Exams which weren’t so different from the Rinnegan power of Momoshiki Otsutsuki. It was quite apparent that Boruto had tricked his way to that point, and being compared to a villain like Momoshiki wasn’t helping him gain respect from anyone, either.
4 EARNED: When Kashin Koji Saw Him Defeat Ao
Kashin Koji was observing Boruto’s battle against Ao when the two fought in a full-blown battle. Surprisingly, Boruto emerged as the victor after the battle wrapped up, and he achieved this by making good use of the Scientific Ninja Tools and combining his own powers with them.
Kashin Koji immediately took interest in him and, moments later, introduced himself before facing Konohamaru in combat.
3 LOST: When He Couldn’t Save Mitsuki From Leaving The Village
After the events of the Vs Momoshiki arc, Boruto saw himself chase Mitsuki to Iwagakure in an attempt to help him. During the arc, Boruto’s friendship with Mitsuki was put to test and the latter even acted as his enemy at that point. When Mitsuki struck Boruto, the rest of the artificial humans with him immediately took Boruto for a weakling and lost respect for him. Later, however, Boruto went on to reclaim that respect and showed them why he was Naruto’s son.
2 EARNED: When Boruto Faced Jigen Of Kara
Boruto was of the utmost importance to Jigen, who planned on feeding him to the God Tree and then gain greater power for himself. During their first introduction, Jigen was only interested in Kawaki, his next vessel. However, after finding out that Boruto bore Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s Karma, he immediately took a liking to him. Boruto kept surprising him by pulling off the impossible like befriending Kawaki and even saving Naruto by defeating Boro, gaining his respect in the process.
1 LOST: When Kashin Koji Deemed Him Unworthy Of Defeating Jigen
After Kashin Koji realized that Boruto bore the Karma of Momoshiki Otsutsuki, he immediately decided to observe him further. When Boruto clashed with Kawaki and activated the Karma, he realized that his power was not enough to take on the monster that was Isshiki Otsutsuki. Although Kashin Koji still had high hopes for him, he was certainly a bit disappointed at the lack of progress that Boruto had made and lost respect for him.
