Marvel’s Wolverine Trailer Is Set in The Princess Bar

[ad_1]

A small clue in the bar reveals where the Marvel’s Wolverine trailer takes place and its a location Marvel fans will be familiar with.

Being one of several announcements that sent PlayStation fans into hysterics after the Showcase, Insomniac Games revealed that the next step in their use of the Marvel license is a title centered around the most popular mutant ever, Wolverine. Whilst the trailer itself didn’t give away too many details about what we can expect, fans have been pouring over the reveal footage and have found something that outlines just where this teasing clip takes place.

In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of the trailer, we get a view of Logan from behind, sat at the bar. Just in front of him sits a chalkboard and amidst the scribblings on it, the name of the establishment is revealed — The Princess Bar. That one little chalkboard may seem like a little Easter Egg, but it actually tells us quite a bit about the possible story and setting for Marvel’s Wolverine.

The Princess Bar first appeared in print in September 1988, created by Chris Claremont and John Buscema for Marvel Comics Presents #1. The establishment is located in Madripoor, a city on a small island in Southeast Asia, known for its stark inequality between the wealthy Hightown and impoverished Lowtown, with the Princess Bar found in the latter. Madripoor is a thriving business capital on the Pacific Rim, but its history in piracy has left it mired in crime, becoming a haven for some of the world’s most wanted.

Fans of the MCU will remember Madripoor as the city that Sam and Bucky visit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with a sign for The Princess Bar seen at one point in the background. The bar has been an ever-present location in Madripoor since its debut in 1988, typically a minor locale in the grand scheme of things, though it did recently act as a scene of conflict in Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Matteo Lolli and Edgar Delgado’s recent Marauderrun.

As it pertains to Wolverine, the bar’s first appearance in Marvel Comics Presents #1 could possibly give a hint at its presence in the new PlayStation game. In that story, Wolverine travels to Madripoor after finding a man who has suffered extreme injuries at the hands of one of Madripoor’s crime lords, Roche. In his dying words, the man begs Wolverine to “save the Tiger,” beginning a journey that sees Wolverine taking on some of the city’s most dangerous criminals.

Whilst the plot for Marvel’s Wolverine is still unknown, at least part of it being located on Madripoor gives credence to the idea of Wolverine traveling to the city to deal with some of its less than desirable inhabitants. Though the game may not follow the Marvel Comics Presents storyline at all, the trailer does prove it will maintain one fact from the Marvel Universe: nothing good ever happens in Madripoor.
