The latest trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V show’s off the protagonist’s powerful Nahobino form, deadly demons and the sinister Netherworld.
ATLUS dropped a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V, the last entry in the beloved role-playing series.
The trailer provides players with a closer look at the protagonist’s powerful Nahobino form alongside a host of new gameplay mechanics, locations and enemies. The footage showcases the protagonist’s suite of powers and abilities while providing a more detailed look at the Netherworld, one of the game’s harrowing locations.
When the unnamed hero of Shin Megami Tensei V is whisked away to a desolate, post-apocalyptic Tokyo, their life is immediately threatened by a horde of vicious demons. Yet before the creatures can claim his life, a “savior” emerges. This entity unites with the player-character, creating a Nahobino, a “blasphemous being” that is neither human nor demon, a combination of both light and darkness.
“With newfound power, the protagonist ventures through Da’at, an enigmatic realm filled with mythical deities and demonic tyrants in constant conflict for survival,” reads the official description of Shin Megami Tensei V. “Searching for answers, the protagonist must forge his own path in a battle between light and dark to dictate the fate of the world.”
Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series should feel right at home with the latest entry in the franchise. The game will include the series’ iconic Press Turn Battle System which allows players to discover and expose enemy weakness, earning consecutive turns and actions. The protagonist will also be able to negotiate with opposing demons, potentially recruiting them in the process. These friendly demons can then be fused to create powerful, foreboding creatures. The game reportedly contains over 200 unique demons, some of which long-time players will recognize while others have been created especially for the new game.
Shin Megami Tensei V will also sport a fully realized 3D world rendered in Unreal Engine 4, a first for the mainline series. In their travels, players will engage in a sweeping story filled with “tragic choices.” The protagonist will need to sacrifice to pursue their goals of light or darkness, with every decision having major consequences on the game’s world.
Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series won’t have to wait too much longer for the next mainline game. Shin Megami Tensei V launches on Nov. 12 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
