Among the roster of characters, Rampart is by far the best. With a total package of both offense and defense, this is why every team should have her.
In the pantheon of Apex Legends characters, the one every fireteam should have is Rampart. Rampart’s abilities and ultimate means from early to late game, this woman can secure victory even at the highest levels of play. Knowing when to use her strong defensive and offensive abilities is key to making this legend truly the best of all.
First introduced in Season 6, Rampart is a craft weaponsmith who brought some pretty intense gameplay changes. While her season already saw massive changes with the implementation of crafting, Rampart brought with her cover that enhanced cover fire and a machine gun that shredded the opposition. She’s become a fan favorite since launch and one of the more powerful characters. With her rounded-out abilities and offensive and defensive capabilities, Rampart is easily the game’s best Legend.
In battle royales, early gameplay can be critical to setting up the rest of the match. If the fireteam drops hot, finding themselves surrounded by other players, Rampart’s Amped Cover comes into play for the first time. Throwing down these barriers to block doors and choke points is exactly the strategy every team needs when early looting. As other fireteams descend on her position, they quickly come to roadblock after roadblock, slowing them down and forcing them to take less optimal paths. This gives her team the space and time to quickly loot and set up for their first encounter. Should a team decide to push through, the fireteam can turn around using the extra damage Amped Cover provides, quickly dropping lightly armored opponents.
During mid-match, the Amped Cover still has plenty of uses, even while players are moving to each new zone as it appears. Once again, using Amped Cover as a roadblock continues to be an effective strategy. Slowing down chasing enemies while giving her fireteam plenty of time to withdraw from the fight or prepare for the encounter. These precious moments can make or break a team’s chances for survival. Another use for Amped Cover is to fortify a position to gatekeep a team out of the safe zone. With the circle closing in, teams rushing to the safe zone will run right into a waiting Rampart’s fireteam looking to either force them into the open or die to the ring.
In the late game, with the safe zone reduced to a small size and the remaining teams looking for a safe place to engage from, Rampart’s Amped Cover can turn the tide of the fight. From on high, dropping three of her barriers can ensure that an elevated Rampart can make a fortress few can get through with the circle at her back. While setting up camp in a building is a formidable way of securing that top spot, Rampart makes it much easier. Setting up barriers in front of doors adds a layer of protection, forcing her enemies to break through the door, then her barrier to get shots at the team. Meanwhile, her team is free to open fire, using the barrier’s additional damage to hold their position and punish the opposition.
Defensively, Rampart is a standout character, but it’s her offensive abilities that make her shine from the other, more defensive playstyle legends. Rampart’s greatest offensive ability comes from her ultimate Sheila, her emplaced minigun. This mini-gun can unleash a devastating barrage of firepower, pinning enemies down with suppressive fire or wiping them out in seconds. Being able to drop 3 of them simultaneously means the entire fire team can use these powerful weapons in tandem.
Sheila may not have much use early in the match. Its use in mid and late gameplay can turn everything around for her team. Players looking to control an area or force enemies into chokepoints can quickly set up this mini-gun to control areas, forcing opponents right into their trap. Mid-game, Sheila can be deployed to ravage an unsuspecting team looking to move to a new area. The noise alone will give her team time to reposition, leading to a full-out offensive charge.
During the heat of battle, this mini-gun can change the tide. Slipping away for a moment, Rampart could drop Sheila, opening fire on a team already compromised. Sheila can also be used to push opponents out of their protection or into cover, where she has control. With the area under her control, she can direct her team to engage and quickly overwhelm them, with nowhere for her enemies to run. Late-game, her mini-gun transforms her defensive structures into offensive nightmares. With doors covered and the Amped Cover providing extra damage, any team that dares come close won’t survive long enough to regret that decision.
In any situation, Rampart should be equipped with a light machine gun to take advantage of her passive ability, the Modded Loader. The ability to quickly reload light machine guns means a constant stream of bullets, whether it’s pushing an opponent or standing her ground. Up high, down low, in a building or out in the open, Rampart can change the direction of any fight with her overwhelming firepower. With her barriers backing up her defense, she’s a complete package, able to help any team become legendary.
