Spider-Man: No Way Home doesn’t hit theaters until December, but the first teaser trailer has sent the world into a frenzy. Fans, media, and YouTubers everywhere have been going through it with a fine-tooth comb, hoping to find something new on each rewatch. The teaser was quite detailed and featured a lot of exciting easter eggs, some that may be in it just for gags and a lot that will play a pivotal role in the film’s story.
No Way Home is shaping up to be the biggest comic book movie since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and the new trailer is white-hot, even breaking the record for the number of views in its first 24 hours. While Marvel is known for misleading fans to keep certain surprises intact, the new trailer for Spidey’s movie has a lot of exciting plot points that fans (and the media) have noticed.
15 No Way Home Will Pick Up Right After The Events Of Far From Home
Early on in the trailer, it shows Spider-Man and MJ swinging through the streets of New York in a panic. A certain news editor (more on him later) is shown repeating that Spider-Man is really Peter Parker and he was responsible for the death of Mysterio. It seems as if it’s mere minutes after the conclusion of Far From Home and No Way Home will pick up right after the shocking events of the last film.
14 Spidey Artist & Co-Creator Steve Ditko’s Name Is Shown On The Roof With MJ & Peter
The very beginning of the No Way Home trailer features Peter and MJ talking and joking around on a rooftop, as they try and avoid all the publicity Peter being Spider-Man is bringing them. When they are first shown talking, behind them in spray-painted bubble letters is the name, S. Ditko. Steve Ditko was the co-creator and original artist for Spider-Man, he and Stan Lee would go on to create a lot of Marvel’s best characters.
Ditko’s Spider-Man (shown above) was known for his bold colors and embroidered details in the art, which some say looked psychedelic and jumped out of the pages at the reader. Ditko would go on to co-create Doctor Strange, Doc Ock, Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman, and Lizard… who are either confirmed or rumored to be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
13 JK Simmons Will Return As J. Jonah Jameson
That certain news editor who reveals Peter’s true identity was none other than JK Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson, who was in the original Sam Raimi trilogy and reappeared at the end of Far From Home. However, the MCU version of Jameson has a different haircut from the Raimi trilogy and also works for an online version of The Daily Bugle. Although the multiverse will be fully explored in No Way Home and in addition to past Spider-Men and villains showing up, there’s always a possibility that both the MCU Jameson and the Raimi version appear in this film.
12 The Devil In Disguise Poster May Mean The Arrival Of A Legendary Villain
Please don’t shoot the writer! Or don’t shoot the conspiracy theorist hoping one of Marvel’s most evil characters will FINALLY appear in an MCU project! While most fans are sick of hearing about Mephisto after rumors swirled about him in WandaVision and Loki, the infamous Spider-Man comic story One More Day features Spidey making a deal with Marvel’s resident Devil. Although, that comic story is loathed by most comic fans and Disney allowing a devil character to run rough shot in the MCU seems unfathomable. Never say never though, Mephisto is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe and should be utilized at some point in the MCU.
11 Peter’s Identity Being Revealed By Mysterio Will Affect Everyone In His Life
One of the biggest takeaways from the teaser was the impact that Peter’s secret identity being revealed will have on his closest friends and family. It’s clearly adding stress to MJ and Peter’s new relationship, while Ned is shown being questioned at a police station and Aunt May is with Peter when police lights seem to be flashing around their apartment. Additionally, Happy Hogan is shown being surrounded by police officers and is being targeted with several laser targeting weapons. As much as this impacting his own life, Peter’s loved ones getting hassled by Mysterio’s reveal may be the reason he seeks help from Doctor Strange.
10 Is The White Shirt Man In The Police Station A Cop Or A Certain Lawyer?
When Peter is being interrogated at the police station, there are at least two men in the room with him. One, who is definitely a cop, and another some people are speculating could be Netflix’s resident Man Without Fear, aka Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. Cox has been rumored to be appearing in No Way Home for quite some time and some claimed he was spotted on set last year. Obviously, it could just be a random lawyer or another police officer, but that shirt and tie combo looks familiar, and connecting the successful Marvel Netflix shows to the MCU would be best for business.
9 It’s Snowing Inside Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum
Seeing Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is always a good thing, but why is it snowing inside the Sanctum Sanctorum? When Peter first arrives to ask Strange for help, the Sanctorum is shown with snow covering the inside and even a random guy shoveling it up. Some claim it’s from the hole Hulk left when he crashed down to warn them about Thanos, but that seems unlikely since Strange and Wong have both been back for almost a year, and couldn’t they use magic to fix it within seconds?
8 Where Is Wong Going After Warning Strange About A Certain Spell?
Speaking of the Sanctorum and Strange, Wong is shown in the trailer and he seems to be packed for a long trip. Could this be because he has to go fight Abomination in the upcoming Shang Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings movie? Kevin Feige confirmed Wong is fighting Abomination in Shang Chi, so does that mean the events of No Way Home and Shang Chi overlap? Whatever the case may be, Wong seems extra agitated and looks to be traveling to a different part of the world.
7 The Multiverse Is Opened By Strange’s Spell… Or Due To The Events Of Loki
The teaser makes it seem that Strange’s spell, which would make the world forget Peter is Spider-Man, is the reason the multiverse opens. However, what if the events of No Way Home are happening at the same time Disney+’s Loki happened? The sacred timeline branched off into several other timelines, which means the events of any MCU project could be impacted. The teaser obviously doesn’t want to give away too much and making it seem like Strange’s spell is the reason for the multiverse makes sense for fans who haven’t watched Loki.
6 F.E.A.S.T. Will Be Featured In Some Capacity… Perhaps Martin Li As Well?
Peter is shown wearing his new black and gold suit without his mask on, running through a soup kitchen. After rewatching the trailer, some fans noticed that F.E.A.S.T. was written on the wall. F.E.A.S.T. is a homeless shelter and is ran by Martin Li, aka Mr. Negative, and played a huge role in Playstation’s 2018 Spider-Man video game. Aunt May is no stranger to helping people and her working at F.E.A.S.T. could just be a fun nod to the comics and game, or it’s setting up another villain for this movie or future movies.
5 A Return To The Mirror Dimension And Strange’s “Strange” Behavior
Many fans believe that the trailer shows Doctor Strange acting quite differently from his normal serious persona. It is funny that Strange is wearing a puffy winter coat under his cloak of levitation, but is there really something up with The Master of the Mystic Arts? The Mephisto theory has already been thrown out there and while it may seem ludicrous, there is something up with Bleeker Street’s favorite wizard. The MCU Doctor Strange is usually very serious when it comes to the Mystic Arts, so him instantly helping Peter by performing a dangerous spell seems a little off. The trailer also showed Spider-Man and Doctor Strange flying through the mirror dimension, which played a huge part in 2016’s Doctor Strange solo movie.
4 Peter Will Wear At Least 3 Different Spidey Suits
Peter is shown wearing his red and black suit for Far From Home, his Iron Spider suit, and a new black suit that some are hoping is a symbiote-related costume. It would make more sense for his new black suit to be used for battling Electro or even jumping through different realities, however, when Spidey fans see a black suit they instantly think of Venom and the symbiote.
Spidey will clearly be dealing with different timelines so the possibility of him wearing more than 3 suits is strong. Also, what if there is more than one Peter Parker in No Way Home? The number of Spidey suits could be tripled if two familiar faces return and help Tom Holland’s Spidey in the MCU, but that mystery most likely won’t be revealed until December 17th.
3 What Is The Magical Box Peter Is Holding When Strange Knocks Him Out Of His Astral Projection?
For a movie with Spider-Man’s name in the title, Doctor Strange is all over this teaser trailer. However, Benedict Cumberbatch is always welcomed in any MCU movie, but what’s the deal with the magical box Spidey is holding when Strange knocks him into his astral projection? The box looks like an artifact that could have come from Strange’s Sanctorum, which means it will most likely have magical powers and be a Macguffin for No Way Home. Everyone is speculating that past characters will come back to the MCU’s main reality, however, what if this box allows Tom Holland’s Spidey the ability to hop through different universes?
2 A Large Creature Goes To Attack Peter But Is Stopped By A Glass Wall
In a blink and you’ll miss it moment towards the end of the trailer, Peter is shown looking quite worried when a large creature crashes into a protective shield right in front of him. It’s very dark and unclear who or what this creature is, but the best guesses are Rhys Ifans’ Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man or Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Gargan could be out of jail now and somehow got his hands on large armor that resembles a Scorpion. Although, with all these other multiversal villains showing up, an updated version of the Lizard would be a cool visual. Both Lizard and Scorpion have been members of The Sinister Six, who will most likely form in No Way Home.
1 Every Villain That Is Confirmed And Every Villain That Is Hinted At
A couple of the previous Spider-Man movies suffered from too many villains and the story became too convoluted. However, this is Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige has a great passion for the source material so No Way Home should be fine, shouldn’t it? Regardless, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro have all been, or pretty much been, confirmed to return for this MCU epic conclusion to Jon Watts’ Spider-Man (Home?) Trilogy. The trailer also suggested Sandman could return, as well as that large creature mentioned previously (Lizard or Scorpion), and it would make sense to bring back a Spidey MCU bad guy, perhaps Michael Keaton’s Vulture or Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio?
