The early Rotten Tomatoes score for Dune finds the Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi epic left a positive impression on the critic reviewers.
Reviews for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune are starting to flood in, and critics are giving the sci-fi epic a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Dune currently holds an 83% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 23 reviews amassed so far. The reviews range from calling Dune a “masterpiece” of cinema to heralding it a “once-in-a-generation film.” Below is a collection of the many early reviews for Dune.
Germain Lussier of io9: “Dune is awesome in every sense of the word, and it’ll be a movie fans cherish for years to come.”
Steve Pond of TheWrap: “A formidable cinematic accomplishment, a giant mood piece that can be exhilarating in its dark beauty.”
David Crow of Den of Geek: “The first good adaptation of Herbert’s psychedelic (and frequently opaque) musings comes at a moment where visual grandeur is in desperate need of something weird and thoughtful. Well, Dune is very weird. Blissfully so.”
Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly: “If you’re already knee-deep in Herbert mythology, you’ll thrill to every whispered word; if you come in not knowing the difference between a Holtzman shield and a hole in the floor, it’s a longer walk.”
Brian Truitt of USA Today: “Even with its imperfections, Dune as an experience is awesome, with astounding special effects, great production design and a propulsive Hans Zimmer score.”
Richard Trenholm of CNET: “Dune is a tour de force of cinematic sci-fi, a star-studded yet deeply weird fantasy epic, a thoughtful and thrilling movie experience… And then it stops right in the middle.”
With almost two months to go before fans get to witness Dune and its all-star cast for themselves, the early buzz is a positive sign that at least the majority of moviegoers will not leave disappointed.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune will debut in theaters, as well as for a limited time on HBO Max, Oct. 22.
