Robert Kirkman’s Invincible exploded onto Amazon Prime in early 2021 as audiences praised it as a great modern adaptation of the original comic series. Though it doesn’t follow the original storyline of the comic, the TV series’ storyline has been restructured to create a more coherent narrative for an 8-episode TV series. The stories from season one took a variety of plots from across the comic’s open-ended story. However, this also leaves plenty of room open for more storylines to appear in the upcoming seasons two and three.
From outer space invasions to villains who were written out of the main storyline, season two of Amazon Prime’s Invincible has so much potential.
10 The Sequid Invasion
Only alluded to in the finale of season one, Mark’s antics on Mars had had a severe backlash. During the first manned mission to Mars, Mark accidentally upset the balance of the Martian society and released the dangerous Sequid parasite race.
Once it has gained a host, the Sequids go from an obedient slave race to a torrential hive of control. In the finale of season one, fans saw the Sequid horde overthrow the Martian monarchy. In the comic, this continued as the Sequids began to launch an invasion of Earth, which forced Mark and the new Guardians of the Globe to intervene.
9 Nolan Retreats To Thraxa
After leaving his son bloodied and beaten, Nolan Grayson fled Earth and soared across the galaxy. Deciding to betray his Viltrumite heritage, Nolan abandoned his post and went on to find a new life on the planet Thraxa. Nolan would later send a Thraxan to find Mark and lead him to Nolan’s new home to meet with his father in hopes of gaining his help and rekindling their relationship.
It is in this story arc that fans learn how Nolan sought to unlearn his Viltrumite ways and completely start over. But it had made him a target for the Viltrumite empire as they sought to question him for leaving his post on Earth.
8 The New Guardians Vs. The Lizard League
Without the original Guardians of the Globe protecting the planet and both Invincible and Omni-Man gone, the villain group, The Lizard League, saw to conquer the Earth by taking control of a nuclear missile silo. In response, the second iteration of the Guardians of the Globe launched a counter-attack.
The conflict was surprisingly brutal and intense as the League put up a great fight killing both Shrinking Ray and Dupli-Kate. After a hard-fought battle, only Rex Plode and Monstergirl were left as they gave their lives to finally rid the world of The Lizard League.
7 Doc Seismic & His Underground Army
Thought dead after falling into a stream of flowing magma, it was revealed in the finale of season one that the surprisingly politically aware Doc Seismic had not only survived his fall but had been found by some form of subterranean society that chose to worship him as a god.
In the comic, Seismic uses this society to commit various crimes and attack prisons, seeing himself as a king of the underground world. It took the entire superhero community to subdue him as he commanded beasts of a prehistoric scale as his own soldiers.
6 Angstrom Levy, The Multiversal Traveller
Angstrom Levy was a character completely written out of his original story. In the TV series, the Mauler Twins are broken out of prison by Robot to build him a new body. In the comic, they were broken out by Levy and recruited by him to build a device to enhance his intelligence.
Levy is a superhuman with the power to travel between realities at will. He chooses to collect his alternate selves and transfer their individual knowledge into himself. After the experiment goes awry, he believes Mark, who was sent to capture the escaped Mauler Twins, was responsible and sets out on his own revenge quest, capturing and torturing his family.
5 The Second Coming Of Darkwing
In the crime-ridden metropolis of Midnight City, a city shrouded in eternal twilight due to the villain Midnight Magician, Mark is dispatched by Cecil to investigate a wave of murders. He later comes into contact with a new Darkwing. Originally, a Batman equivalent, the original was murdered by Omni-Man in the early issues of the comic.
This new Darkwing is the former sidekick Night Boy, who took up his mentor’s mantle to continue his legacy. However, the former ward has become corrupted by the city and has used his title and abilities as Darkwing to murder criminals.
4 Mark Meets The Real Cecil
When Mark discovers that Cecil had recruited the mad scientist D.A. Sinclair and used his undead robotic soldiers, the Reanimen, for government missions as well as keeping the murderous second Darkwing out of prison, Mark threatened to tell the world.
Cecil then used said undead robots to attack his partner to silence him. He also attempted to use the Guardians of the Globe against him, but they refused after trusting Mark. This betrayal would lead to the end of Mark’s partnership with Cecil and the US Government.
3 Meet Mark’s Younger Half-Brother, Oliver
While hiding on Thraxa, Nolan revealed to Mark that not only had he started a new life, but he had started a new family as well. The mixture of Thraxan and Viltrumite DNA caused their son to age rapidly. When Nolan was captured by the Viltrumites, he begged Mark to watch after his new son.
Mark brought him back to Earth to his mother, who named him Oliver. Mark would have to raise and train a child with both Nolan’s powers and his ideology when it comes to villains. Oliver, like his father, showed no hesitation with murder and saw his older brother as weak for letting enemies live.
2 Mark Goes Solo
After a harsh betrayal from his former partner, Cecil, Mark had a period where he no longer had the support of the US Government to both protect his family and notify him of any dangers around the world. On top of college, helping his mother and raising/training his younger brother Oliver, this new portion of Mark’s life highlighted the true difficulty of maintaining a double life that is often overlooked in superhero stories.
Mark would no longer be on the scene in an instant, only being able to respond to danger by seeing it in person, or on the news.
1 What Happened To Allen The Alien?
In the season one finale, Mark informed Allen of what transpired with his father. Allen believes that the information is extremely valuable, heading off to inform the Coalition of Planets. Seeing Mark’s Viltrumite powers would make a great asset, he travels to the center of the Coalition, only to learn that there is a mole in their council.
After being assaulted by two Viltrumites, Allen is sent to the hospital. However, when he recovers, he learns that his powers have greatly increased. This leads Allen to become another great weapon against the Viltrumite empire.
