In a pair of trailers, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl confirms CatDog and April O’Neil are part of the crossover fighting game’s roster.
The upcoming crossover fighting game Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has added two new playable characters to its roster in the form of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mainstay April O’Neil and Nickelodeon original(s) CatDog.
CatDog and April O’Neil received respective announcement trailers for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2021. These trailers offer a peek at some of the fighting moves these new characters have up their sleeves.
Of course, April O’Neil has been a major Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character since the very beginning, having debuted in the original Mirage Studios comic book series by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in the 1980s. Naturally, April has also appeared in the various animated adaptations to come out over the years, including those released by Nickelodeon, which acquired the TMNT license in 2009 through its parent company, Viacom.
Meanwhile, Peter Hannan’s CatDog originally premiered on Nickelodeon in 1998. The show followed the titular CatDog, a conjoined cat and dog sibling voiced by Jim Cummings and Tom Kenny. CatDog ran on Nick for a total of four seasons (including a television movie), concluding its run in 2005.
April O’Neil is the third TMNT character to be confirmed for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, following turtles Leonardo and Michelangelo. April and CatDog also join the likes of Oblina from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters; Danny Phantom from Danny Phantom; Helga Pataki from Hey Arnold!; Zim from Invader Zim; Lincoln Loud and Lucy Loud from The Loud House; Powered Toast Man from The Ren & Stimpy Show; Reptar from Rugrats; SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob SquarePants; and Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys.
Inspired by Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a fighting game that pits the network’s various iconic animated characters against one another. This wouldn’t be the first time a company other than Nintendo has tried its hand at the Smash Bros. formula, with Sony having tried something similar in 2012 with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Developed by Ludosity and Fair Play Labs and published by GameMill Entertainment and Maximum Games, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game is expected to release later this year.
