Following the release of the first official Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, some fans are convinced that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock makes a cameo.
Following the long-awaited release of the first official trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, some fans are sure the teaser includes Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock, iconic Marvel Universe lawyer and vigilante Daredevil.
The scene in question appears towards the beginning of the trailer, at the 31-second mark. While Peter is undergoing an interrogation by the police, who suspect him of murdering Mysterio (Spider-Man: Far From Home), a person wearing a white shirt, black tie and black pants is seen slamming down a bundle of files; his face is not visible in the shot. This same figure is seen a few seconds earlier, following a detective into the interrogation room. Based on the silhouetted profile of the person, some are speculating that the character is none other than Matt Murdock as portrayed by Charlie Cox.
While the inclusion of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, many fans are dissecting the trailer for any nugget of information. One Twitter user pointed out that Doctor Strange is seen wearing a hoodie from Columbia University, the establishment where Matt Murdock and his legal partner, Foggy Nelson, studied law.
If the character seen in the No Way Home trailer is indeed Matt Murdock, this would solidify Netflix’s Daredevil series as a part of the MCU. While the show was originally suggested to be canon alongside the films, the lack of crossover elements and minimal connections lead many fans to doubt its relevancy. This was later confirmed by James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and producer on several MCU projects, who stated that any Marvel show released before WandaVision was not considered part of the MCU.

While little is currently known about the overall plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the teaser trailer does provide some insight into what can be expected. Following Mysterio exposing Spider-Man’s secret identity to the world, Peter Parker turns to Doctor Strange for assistance. While casting a spell that would seemingly mind wipe the world, something goes wrong and causes a severe multiversal accident. In the fallout, Peter must deal with what appear to be villains transported from different realities, including Doctor Octopus as portrayed by Alfred Molina, reprising his iconic role from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin is also teased with an ominous cackle and a lobbed Goblin Bomb.
Fans desperate to see if Charlie Cox does return as Matt Murdock won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Spider-Man: No Way Home releases in theaters on Dec. 17.
