Ben Grimm gets his own six-issue solo series this fall, courtesy of acclaimed crime fiction novelist Walter Mosley and artist Tom Reilly.

Ben Grimm, the loveable big bruiser of the Fantastic Four, is getting his own solo series.

The Thing, written by Walter Mosley and drawn by Tom Reilly, is a six-issue series that will see Ben Grimm/The Thing embark on a mission spanning the dark alleys of Manhattan to the far reaches of the cosmos. While the details of Ben’s quest remain under wraps, Marvel has teased that the Thing will face off against both old faces from Fantastic Four lore as well as several new foes. The series debuts in November 2021.

The Thing marks Mosley’s first time penning a Marvel series, as the novelist is better known for his noir crime thrillers like 1995’s Devil in a Blue Dress. Nevertheless, Mosley is a longtime fan of the House of Ideas and was behind the 2005 hardcover Maximum Fantastic Four, a supersized reprint of 1961’s Fantastic Four #1 that focused on Jack Kirby’s artwork. Reilly’s previous work as an artist for Marvel includes X-Men: Marvels Snapshots, which focuses on X-Men leader Scott Summers/Cyclops.

Featuring guest appearances from throughout the Marvel Universe, The Thing #1 goes on sale in November 2021.
