10 Anime Characters Who Can Change Their Size At Will

[ad_1]

Countless magical abilities can be found across the world of anime, from generic fire and ice powers to telepathy, teleporting, shapeshifting, controlling the weather and even changing size. Becoming much larger or smaller than normal can be a real game-changer, as Ant-Man/Scott Lang from the MCU demonstrates. Ant-Man has plenty of anime counterparts, that’s for sure.

If a character can shrink themselves down to a tiny size, they can sneak right by the enemy or avoid enemy fire, and if a character can grow much larger with strength to match, they can crush their foes as an unstoppable colossus of battle. Which anime characters can alter their bodily size at will?

10 Envy Can Morph Into A Lizard-Dog Creature (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

envy true form from fullmetal alchemist

The shapeshifting homunculus Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood can assume any form that the mission calls for, and he typically operates with stealth and cunning, donning disguises of all sorts. But if his opponent is powerful, such as Scar the Ishvalan Monk or Colonel Roy Mustang, Envy can assume yet another form.

Envy’s giant form is a strange creature resembling a dog and lizard, complete with a canine snout, six legs and a long tail. With this body, he can crush or grab any foe with ease, though this giant form didn’t protect him from Colonel Roy Mustang’s flames. He just became a bigger target.

9 Rimuru Tempest Can Morph Into A Human Or Monster Shape (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)

The isekai hero Rimuru Tempest was indeed reincarnated as a blue slime critter roughly the same size as a bowling ball. Rimuru doesn’t spend all his time in that form, though; after consuming Shizue Izawa, Rimuru started using a petite human form, which was certainly bigger than his original slime form.

Rimuru is also capable of morphing into a giant dire wolf or even oversized cave monsters, though he rarely uses these forms. Most often, he can be found in his human form, and sometimes, in private, he will shrink back down to his regular, smaller slime body.

8 Makarov Dreyar Can Use Giant Magic To Become Huge (Fairy Tail)

Makarov throws a punch

Makarov Dreyar and his grandson Laxus use very different kinds of magic in Fairy Tail. While Laxus is the lightning dragon slayer, Makarov can use Giant magic to swell into a titanic melee fighter, and he demonstrated this impressive magic during the Tenrou Island arc to take on Hades.

Interestingly, Makarov can use a partial version of his Giant magic, especially indoors, where he’d rather not destroy the building with his giant form. He can expand just one arm with Giant magic and punch his enemies away. This is sometimes done for comic effect.

7 Yammy Llargo’s True Form Is Gigantic (Bleach)

Every Arrancar has a released form that embodies their original Hollow forms, and some of them grow much larger when they release their zanpakuto. A good example of this is Yammy Llargo, the 10th Espada. When he releases his zanpakuto, Ira, he rapidly grows much larger, towering over the opposition.

Yammy’s true form is a multi-legged monster that can grow even larger and stronger according to how angry Yammy becomes. He’s like the Bleach version of the Incredible Hulk, and there seems to be no upper limit to his potential size and power.

6 Choji Akimichi Can Use Expansion Jutsu (Naruto)

Not all ninjas from the Hidden Leaf Village are subtle like Shikamaru Nara or Shino Aburame. There are also melee powerhouses such as Choji Akimichi, who can use his family’s expansion jutsu to become bigger and stronger. He can even gain butterfly wings in the process.

Choji may have lost to Dosu Kinuta, but he used this jutsu again against Jirobo of the Sound Four, and won. Choji later used the expansion jutsu to even greater effect in Naruto: Shippuden, and like Makarov Dreyar, Choji can use a partial version of his body-expanding abilities.

5 All Might’s Skinny & Muscle Forms Contrast Greatly (My Hero Academia)

There are at least two My Hero Academia characters who base their combat style on changing size and shape, and one of them is All Might himself, though he strives to keep this fact hidden. Due to a serious injury at the hands of All For One, All Might’s real body is skinny and weak, and he must manually morph into his muscle form.

All Might can switch back and forth at will, and he only shows the muscle form to the public to maintain his image. Over time, his muscle form faded away, and as of current episodes, All Might can only exist in his skinny form. The Symbol of Peace has been officially retired.

4 Mt. Lady Can Also Alter Her Size (My Hero Academia)

Mt. Lady is the other My Hero Academia character who routinely changes size, except Mt. Lady isn’t hiding a weakness in the process. Normally, she is a Japanese woman of average height, but once she activates that Quirk of hers, she becomes a true colossus.

Mt. Lady is a gigantic melee hero who can step on or grab any villain underfoot, and even the scariest villains are like mere action figures in her grip. The only downside is that Mt. Lady can’t use a partial version of this ability; it’s all or nothing.

3 Nezuko Kamado Has A Beloved “Smol” Form (Demon Slayer)

Demon Slayer Nezuko In box

Nezuko Kamado is a demon with a human heart, and she wears a bamboo muzzle to demonstrate her resolve to never eat any human flesh. She must avoid sunlight while traveling with her brother Tanjiro, so she must fit inside a wooden backpack. This calls for some size alteration.

Nezuko inspired countless memes with her “smol” form, shrinking down into a chibi version of herself. She does this mainly to fit into Tanjiro’s backpack, but she can also use her tiny form to evade enemy attacks. She once did this when Shinobu Kocho attacked her, for example.

2 Myoga Can Get Bigger If He Drinks Blood (InuYasha)

Myoga Gets Ready To Run

An amusing supporting character in InuYasha is the flea demon Myoga, who resembles a balding old man who wears era-appropriate robes and pants, except he has four arms to match his insect nature. Myoga isn’t much of a fighter; he’s too small and weak to harm most demons or humans.

Instead, Myoga tends to act as InuYasha’s advisor and spy, though he can indirectly control his size by drinking blood. If he consumes enough blood, he grows larger, and he can potentially become human size. It’s amusing and odd to see him big enough to see Kagome eye to eye.

1 Eren Yeager Wields The Mighty Attack Titan (Attack On Titan)

Attack-On-Titan-Eren

Every Titan Shifter in Attack on Titan can willingly change his or her size by entering their Titan mode, but Eren Yeager was the first person directly seen doing this, with his Attack Titan form. His father, Grisha Yeager, handed it down to Eren soon after Wall Maria fell.

Eren struggled with this ability at first, since not even he understood it, and everyone feared it. But he soon learned to use this power at will, and now, anytime an enemy shows up, Eren can bite his hand to become a Titan of sheer carnage and win the day.
