DC: 9 Characters You Forgot Had Teamed Up With Batman

[ad_1]

Batman’s got his own personal army in Gotham and has been a founding member of not one, but two different super-teams in his time in the Justice League and the Outsiders. It’s something that feels incongruent with his character considering how many people think of him as a loner, but even more so considering the character doesn’t like leaving his base of operations.

But despite Batman’s image as a loner, he’s worked with plenty of characters in his time as a hero, many of whom most people won’t remember. It’s truly amazing how well he can fit into nearly any story and most teams.

9 Batman And Creeper Hunted A New Insect Villain In Gotham

The Creeper is not a character that tends to stick in the minds of fans. In Bob Haney and Neal Adams’ Brave and the Bold vol. 1 #80 though, Batman comes in contact with the strange anti-hero character. At first, he meets Creeper in his secret identity as a news person, who warns the city of Gotham of a new criminal named Hellgrammite.

Then later, he and Batman team up together to track him down, all while dodging the GCPD which is still searching for Creeper. In the end, they not only manage to capture their criminal, but Creeper manages to escape from everyone.

8 Batman Worked With A Young Bachelor Who Later Reveals Himself As Plastic Man

Kyle Morgan Is Plastic Man

Kyle Morgan is a mystery that most people wouldn’t have seen coming. In an issue of Brave and the Bold by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy, Batman is asked to track down millionaire Ruby Ryder’s fiancee. Of course, Batman has no problem tracking the man, one Kyle Morgan, down. But what he wasn’t aware of is the woman in question wanted him back to have him killed for embarrassing her.

In the end, Batman proves she’s the murderer and she’s nearly put to death until Kyle Morgan reveals he was actually alive. It turned out, he was Plastic Man the entire time, meaning he was impervious to bullets. He reveals he used his powers to shapeshift and fell in love with Ruby Ryder until he realized she was power-hungry and cruel. Disgusted at the idea of marrying a “freak,” Ruby is no longer angry at Plastic Man, and leaves both men to go back to her life.

7 Batman And Sgt. Rock Worked Together In World War II

Believe it or not, Batman’s worked with the legendary Sergeant Rock several times in his past. At one point, Batman pretended to be a British spy to help stop a Nazi faction from unleashing a weapon on the allies. Later, Franklin Rock saved Batman from a Nazi who remembered Bruce Wayne’s sabotaging efforts during the war.

Of course, this is a story that could have only been told during the Silver Age era, where it would have been possible for Batman to have helped out during World War II and been a hero in the sixties.

6 Wildcat Helped Teach Bruce How To Box And The Two Worked Together Many Times

Fans of the films think that Batman was trained to fight by Ra’s Al Ghul, but since Ra’s is about 40 years younger than Batman in real life, he had to seek out other trainers originally.

When Bruce wanted to learn the sweet science of boxing, he sought out Ted Grant, who’d not only been a legendary boxer but worked with the Justice Society. These days, the fact that Ted Grant helped train Bruce has mostly been retconned out but there was a time when this was how Bruce developed his relationship with the Justice Society.

5 Batman Works With The Metal Men Whenever There’s A Major Robot Threat

The-Metal-Men

The Metal Men are some of DC’s lesser-known characters, but they’ve worked with Batman on a number of cases. The first time they worked together was in Bob Haney and Ross Andru’s Brave and the Bold #74 when Batman meets Doc Magnus, who asks Batman to work with the Metal Men to help stop a crime wave being committed by robots.

Batman is skeptical of their help for a while, but eventually, they work together to stop the mad scientist from convincing the robots to commit the crimes. Batman would work with the group several more times, often whenever a new robot villain was introduced.

4 The Legion of Super-Heroes And Batman Team Up In The Distant Future

Batman worked with the Legion of Super-Heroes during a storyline with the Justice League and Justice Society in the legendary Lightning Saga from creators Geoff Johns, Brad Meltzer, Shane Davis, Ed Benes, and Dale Eaglesham. There, Batman helped them to find several of their missing members who had been trapped in the past.

In Brave and the Bold #132 from Bob Haney and Jim Aparo, Richard Dragon briefly visits Gotham City to check on a friend of his and gets attacked by a killer for hire who’s also a master martial artist. Batman appears just as Richard gets the upper hand, stopping him as he believes Richard is a mugger of some kind.

The two get into it briefly when Batman tries to bring Richard in, but when Batman realizes he’s much better trained than any mugger, he learns Richard’s story. Together, they track down the person trying to kill Richard, which leads to them discovering a conspiracy theory surrounding a will and a powerful rich man.

2 Batman Works With An Adult Tim Drake After Being Turned Into A Teenager Again

Batboy and Robin Young Justice Sins of Youth

This version of older Tim Drake comes from Young Justice: Sins of Youth by Chuck Dixon and Cary Nord, where all the older heroes were reduced to their younger ages while the younger heroes were aged up.

In one one-shot, the pair sought Zatanna to get them to reverse their ages again. They worked together to fight against threats across Gotham, but in the end, Zatanna’s power couldn’t override Klarion’s- who created the spell. Instead, her magic changed their outfits around and left them forced to save themselves.

1 Spider-Man And Batman Team Up To Fight Their Biggest Enemies In Carnage And Joker

Batman Spider-Man Dangerous Minds crossover

In the ’90s, DC and Marvel published a comic featuring the two most popular characters from their universes. Written by J.M. DeMatteis and penciled by Graham Nolan, the Batman and Spider-Man comic saw both Batman and Spider-Man were forced to work together when the Joker and Carnage are tossed together as part of an experiment to stop them from being murderers.

There’s no explanation for this crossover, the two heroes just exist in the same universe and have to work together to stop their biggest enemies. As a bit of a change in pace, Spider-Man goes to take down Joker while Batman takes down the dangerous symbiote supervillain.
