A fan interprets several characters from The Last of Us, including Joel, Ellie and Dina, in an impressive series of anime-style speed paintings.
For anyone who has ever wondered what Naughty Dog’s highly-acclaimed survival horror series, The Last of Us, would look like in a different art style, one artist gave several scenes from the series’ second installment an eye-catching anime makeover.
Artist Caro Oliveira uploaded their fan project to YouTube, showcasing speed-paintings of a variety of characters and scenes from The Last of Us Part II. The 11-minute video includes progression art of Joel, Abby, Yara, Lev, Ellie and Dina set to acoustic background music. Time-stamps for specific characters are provided in the video’s description.
While the illustrations are only a fan project, fans will have to settle for a live-action take on The Last of Us instead with the upcoming Last of Us television series starring Pedro Pascal. For those interested in the HBO series, images of a set bearing a strong resemblance to the first game’s Boston quarantine zone were recently spotted in Calgary. The TV series currently lacks a release date, though The Last of Us looks to premiere on HBO sometime in 2022.
Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us debuted on the PlayStation 3 in 2014, throwing players into the post-apocalyptic United States ravaged by an infectious mutated fungus that turns people into cannibalistic creatures. The third-person survival horror game mixed in action-adventure elements from the developer’s popular Uncharted series to critical acclaim in both its gameplay and storytelling. The game received a sequel in 2020, The Last of Us Part II, which is currently available along with its predecessor on PlayStation 4.
