Sinister and dangerous, My Hero Academia’s Tomura Shigaraki is a powerful and haunting villain. Empowered by a Quirk that allows him to cause anything he touches to decay, Shigaraki is a sort of antithesis to All Might and his vision of heroism and peace. Shigaraki is bent on destroying not just the Symbol of Peace, but the society that All Might represents as well.
As twisted and violent as he is, there are a number of anime heroes who would not only fight Shigaraki but also have a great chance of winning. However, there are also just as many that Shigaraki would wipe the floor within a matter of seconds.
10 Would Lose: Bell Cranel Is In Over His Head (Danmachi)
Bell Cranel is the first member of the Hestia Familia and a capable adventurer despite his small and meek appearance. Throughout Danmachi, Bell has taken down powerful monsters and skilled warriors thanks to his unique skills, resistance to status effects, and sheer determination – but against Shigaraki he might be in over his head.
While Bell could keep Shigaraki at a distance with Firebolt for a time, the spell wouldn’t be enough to put Shigaraki down since he’s survived worse attacks. Bell can resist status effects, but he’d still be vulnerable to a power that erodes and decays. As tough as he is, Bell wouldn’t stand a chance on his own.
9 Could Win: Gridman Can Fix Whatever Shigaraki Destroys (SSSS.Gridman)
Shigaraki may have some experience fighting giants, but nothing on the level of the “Hyper Agent” Gridman. On top of his ginormous size, Gridman backs it up with incredible strength and speed, and that’s before being equipped with the various weapons and alternate forms that could keep Shigaraki at bay.
Despite that, Shigaraki would still put up a fight with Decay, but Gridman is able to restore whatever he can destroy at a worldwide range thanks to the “Grid Fixer” ability, which can even heal human hearts. It would be a long battle, but Gridman can counter and outlast Shigaraki.
8 Would Lose: Wild Tiger & Barnaby Only Have Five Minutes (Tiger & Bunny)
Despite their differences, heroes Wild Tiger (Kotetsu Kaburagi) and Barnaby Brooks Jr. (aka “Bunny”) make for a powerful super-team that could be counted as one unit. With their NEXT power that enhances their strength, the two are capable of stopping a lot of bad guys, but sadly, they wouldn’t be up to snuff against Shigaraki.
While their powers could help them keep up with Shigaraki for a time, that super-strength only lasts five minutes, and once that’s up, neither of them can do it again for at least an hour. That weakness is something Shigaraki can take advantage of, and his Quirk could completely destroy the duo’s weapons and armor.
7 Could Win: Decay Would Be Nothing To Giorno Giovanna’s Stand (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, it’s stated that only a Stand can fight another Stand. While there are many Stand Users that could give Shigaraki a run for his money, Giorno Giovanna might be one of the only that could put him down. With transmutation and healing abilities, Giorno can keep up and attack Shigaraki with Gold Experience, while Shigaraki can’t even touch it.
With Gold Experience Requiem, Giorno basically surpasses all other Stand Users with infinite levels of strength and speed. The ability “Return to Zero” could also undo any damage Shigaraki was able to cause, as well as trapping him in an unending death loop.
6 Would Lose: Alchemy Won’t Be Able To Save Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)
In Fullmetal Alchemist, there are many different kinds of alchemy, but almost anything can be transmuted. No one embodies that better than the “Fullmetal Alchemist” himself, Edward Elric. Edward is a smart and skilled fighter as well as an alchemist who can basically turn the battlefield around him into whatever he needs. But even that might not be enough to stop Shigaraki.
While Ed can use basically anything around him against Shigaraki, Shigaraki can make those things crumble in an instant. Ed would be at a disadvantage since Shigaraki can barrel through everything his alchemy can dish out. Without a way to actually hurt Shigaraki, it’d only be a matter of time before he gets to Edward, ending the fight.
5 Could Win: Rimuru Tempest Is Basically Immune To Everything (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
There have been many overpowered isekai heroes that could take on Shigaraki, but the one with the most chance of winning would likely be the one that could survive literally anything Shigaraki can throw at them, and Rimuru definitely fits that bill. Reincarnated into a slime, Rimuru’s unique body and skills make him resist most attacks. His offense is nothing to scoff at either, as he can consume just about anything, even his enemies.
Rimuru is a skilled fighter and spellcaster, a smart tactician, and can even bring back the dead. In short, this slime is practically indestructible and on the level of the strongest of Demon Lords. Even All For One couldn’t save Shigaraki from Rimuru.
4 Would Lose: Rock Lee’s Attacks Rely On Getting Close (Naruto)
Rock Lee stands out among his ninja allies as one of the few shinobi who only use Taijutsu since he’s unable to use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. Despite that limitation, he’s no weakling and can keep up with some of the most fearsome ninjas the world of Naruto has ever seen. However, Shigaraki might be too much for him.
Shigaraki’s physical strength has grown to the point where Endeavor believed it to be on par with All Might, and that’s before the All For One Quirks come into play. Where Lee’s chances plummet is that Taijutsu forces him to get in close and Shigaraki can take advantage of this with Decay.
3 Could Win: Goku Has Fought Opponents On The Level Of Gods (Dragon Ball)
Goku is Dragon Ball’s iconic Super Saiyan and a fighter who’s shattered his limits time and time again. Shigaraki would be far outmatched in a one-on-one fight with this Saiyan warrior. With All For One, Shigaraki has access to tons of stolen quirks and could use them against Goku, but even all of that wouldn’t be enough.
Goku isn’t the brightest, but he’s a genius in combat, able to learn and adapt to any opponent. Plus, Goku has gone toe-to-toe with opponents who are on the level of actual gods, far exceeding anything Shigaraki is capable of. Goku would likely not even need to go all-out to beat Shigaraki.
2 Would Lose: Akame’s Toxins Couldn’t Outmatch Decay (Akame Ga Kill!)
Akame is Night Raid’s most deadly assassin, a skilled swordswoman who can kill her enemies with only a single cut thanks to her poisonous blade Murasame. She’d make for a tough opponent for Shigaraki, and while it’s likely a fight between the two could be close, Shigaraki is more likely to come out on top.
Physically the two surpass normal humans when at their best, and while Akame only needs to slice Shigaraki once to win, Shigaraki has more options to keep Akame at a distance, has more control over the battlefield thanks to Decay, and can regenerate quickly. Akame could hold out for a while, but not long enough to outlast him.
1 Could Win: All Saitama Would Need Is One Punch (One-Punch Man)
Despite how bored he might look with One-Punch Man‘s style, Saitama is still a hero, and that’s all the reason Shigaraki would need to go after him. While Shigaraki might think he has the power to end Saitama easily, he’d be in for a rude awakening.
Saitama’s strength, speed, and durability are at impossible levels, and he’s taken out foes who can devastate whole planets all while holding back his true power. While it’s unclear if he could resist being touched by Decay, Shigaraki would have to catch Saitama first and that’s not exactly easy. All Saitama would really need is just one punch.
