Mysterious ‘NGW’ Teaser Heralds a New Women’s Wrestling Promotion

[ad_1]

A teaser surfaces online for NGW, which is said to be a new women’s professional wrestling promotion launching in 2022.

A new women’s professional wrestling promotion called NGW looks set to burst onto the scene sometime next year.

A short trailer was recently shared to the official NGW Twitter account, which appears to have been launched back in June. Accompanied by the hashtag #ExpectMore, the teaser features numerous close-up shots of female wrestlers gearing up for action. “In 2022, it’s out with the old and in with the new generation,” the video promises. With that in mind, while the full name of the promotion has not been revealed, we can reasonably assume that NGW stands for New Generation Wrestling.

Fightful has apparently been clued in on the nature of this new promotion. The outlet says it’s been told that — as the teaser’s imagery implies — NGW is a new “women’s wrestling project.” Fightful also says that another trailer for the promotion will be released “soon,” and that “plans for NGW have been in the works for months.” That being said, specifics regarding who will be involved with the project are not available at this time.

Of course, NGW would not be the first all-female wrestling promotion. One of the most famous is the now-defunct Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW), which was founded in the 1980s and went on to serve as the basis for the hit Alison Brie-led Netflix series GLOW, which ran for three seasons from 2017 to 2019. A documentary centered around the original promotion, titled GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, previously released in 2012.

A number of all-female wrestling promotions are still active to this day, such as Queens of Combat and Women Of Wrestling. However, arguably the most well-known is the Illinois-based Shimmer Women Athletes, which was founded in 2005. Shimmer also has a Florida-based sister promotion called Shine Wrestling, which was formed in 2012.

Over the years, Shimmer and Shine have been home to a some of the most respected female wrestlers working today, many of whom have gone on to achieve success in WWE and other promotions. Shimmer and Shine alums include the likes of Asuka, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Ember Moon, Leva Bates, Nikki A.S.H., Paige, Ruby Soho, Shayna Baszler, Serena Deeb and Shotzi Blackheart, among many others.
