DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee says any ripple effects from the merger of WarnerMedia with Discovery Inc. haven’t affected the comics operation.
DC CCO Jim Lee said the merger of WarnerMedia with Discovery Inc. hasn’t affected the comics.
Lee, who also is DC’s publisher, told The Hollywood Reporter, “For some of us, we’re used to working in that kind of environment. The bottom line is, it’s business as usual. Past the initial surprise of the announcement, at the end of the day, we’re still moving forward, trying to reach the goals and objectives we have for ourselves. The impending merger, in my opinion, does not materially change anything.”
With a laugh, Lee added, “We’ve had fun brainstorming King Shark Week and what we can do, though.”
AT&T, which acquired Time Warner in June 2018 and later renamed it WarnerMedia, announced in May it would spin off the subsidiary and merge it with Discovery in a $43 billion deal. Pending regulatory and shareholder approval, the merger should complete in 2022, with Discovery Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav as head of the combined entity. The merger puts streaming services HBO Max and Discovery+ into one corporate home, as well as Warner’s array of TV channels — which include CNN, HBO, Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, TCM and 50 percent of The CW — and Discovery’s cable TV lineup, which includes TLC, OWN-Oprah Winfrey Network and The Food Network.
