Years before Luke began rebuilding the Jedi, he and Leia discovered a Jedi: Fallen Order site that held the keys to reigniting the Jedi’s flame.

In a galaxy far, far away, the Force connects everything, tethering its light and dark sides in a perpetual balancing act performed on a galactic stage. But more than that, it binds the exploits of heroes and villains across generations. The planet Bogano, for example, was the site of an attempt at rebuilding the Jedi Order — but that did not come to fruition in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
More than a decade that failed attempt, Luke Skywalker and his sister Leia Organo visited the world that Cal Kestis hoped would lead him to his destiny, only to find that the remains of Cal’s ambitions still had a foothold on the planet in Sam Maggs, Liana Kangas, Britany Peer and Johanna Nattalie’s story in Star Wars Adventures #7.
Luke and Leia had been sent on an assignment to scout out potential planets that the Rebel Alliance believed the Empire had not yet discovered. Leia had given Luke the list of less desirable planets before heading off to handle her half of the list. One of those planets just happened to be Bogano. When she arrived, she discovered that Luke had somehow gotten there before her, having been called to the mysterious planet by the Force. For whatever reason, neither of them truly knew.
But they set aside any differing opinions on what to do to explore the planet further, being led by a native animal to one of the ancient Zeffo ruins that have riddled the planet. Leia thought it might be a good place for a rebel base, but Luke was uncertain, unable to accurately sense which side of the Force this strange world aligned with. Before they could settle the matter, however, the small animal led the two to a contingent of stormtroopers who had captured a group of animals similar to the one that led them there.
It was a crushing blow for Leia to discover that the Empire had discovered this world as well. But they have known about it for well over a decade by the time she arrived. Bogano was first introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and was discovered by Jedi Master Eno Cordovan, who was fascinated by the ancient Zeffo civilization that used the Force as part of its culture and technology. By the time of the Great Jedi Purge, Cordovan hid a holocron containing a list of Force-sensitive children inside one of the Zeffo vaults. He hoped that a Jedi would find the holocron and use its contents to rebuild the Order, giving the galaxy a chance to defeat the Empire.
Cal Kestis was the Jedi Knight who found this holocron, but his efforts to find a way into the vault inadvertently led the empire to Zeffo’s doorstep. Cal lost the holocron to one of the Empire’s inquisitors before recovering it later. But he chose to destroy the holocron to let the Force decide the fate of the children. However, Bogano, once unknown to the Empire, now firmly had their attention.
And though it seemed that the real prize was gone, there is still undoubtedly quite a lot to be learned from the remains of the Zeffo civilization. A Force-sensitive civilization is a potential source of interest for Emperor Palpatine, but of course, there is the possibility that the Empire believes Zeffo hides more Jedi artifacts. Cordovan knew of this planet years before the empire rose to power. It’s entirely possible he used this planet as a hiding place for more than just the holocron.
Whatever the reason the Empire retains its interest in the planet, Luke was drawn by the Force to this place. This means that even though its intended use as the basis for galactic rebellion fell by the wayside, the planet still has a part to play in the power struggle between the rebels and the imperials.
